The Mercury S5 Road Wheels are designed for all-around performance, featuring a 50mm rim depth that boosts aerodynamics without sacrificing versatility. The refined carbon construction yields a stiff rim with responsive steering, with a bit of added compliance for rough roads. Tubeless compatibility allows you to run slightly lower pressures for improved comfort and grip, as well as increased puncture resistance.

The S5's construction uses Mercury's Dual Carbon Layer Process, or DLP. DLP blends high and mid-moduli carbon fibers to offer the best balance between the lightweight and stiffness of the former and the fatigue-resistance and durability of the latter. DLP also involves the incorporation of basalt fibers in the brake track to reduce heat build-up and increase stopping power. This increased stopping power goes a long way toward addressing the poor braking that is one of the most common critiques of carbon wheels.

The aerodynamic benefits of a deep dish rim are further complemented by Mercury's Seamless Transition Technology (STT), which integrates the brake strip with the rest of the rim in order to eliminate any obstructions to wind flow and reduce drag-causing turbulence.

The S5s are finished off with Sapim's reliable Race spokes and Mercury's own hubs. The rear hub includes a generous six pawls for snappy engagement, and the front hub has an extra-wide 70 millimeter flange for reduced flex under hard efforts and confident stability at speed. Both hubs have an oversized axle and oversize sealed bearings that work together to ensure stiffness and long-term durability.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Blew up my Enve's in the last corner of a crit and needed a quick replacement set of wheels that were light and dependable. I have a set of mercury's X1 wheels and like them, so I bought the S5's to replace my Enve's. They are incredible all around wheels for less than a thousand bucks. Two thumbs up!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I had been searching for a set of carbon wheels for a bit. Narrowed down my search and did a lot of research. The Mercury wheels won...hands down. They replaced the original equipment on my Argon18. Weight loss is awesome! Loving them so far!

It is possible to remove the decals?

Hey Miguel,

The Mercury print is not removable, it is either stamped or etched in to the rim itself. If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out to me directly at!

Wheely Good Wheels

Inital Review with roughly 850 miles put on the wheelset, rode tubeless setup.

- Great looking wheelset, made in the USA.
- Aero AF - you can feel the difference especially when riding flats & descents, while feeling lightweight & stiff when climbing. True All-around performance.
- great hub engagement, snappy, loud (though not as loud as I9).
- braking performance is phenomenal; quiet, extremely effective braking, never burned the brake track on steep & windy mountain descents.
- As mentioned before: PR's be damned, these are fast as hell.
- Tubeless performance was great, haven't had a single puncture or de-beading occur.

solid set of wheels

I am very happy with my wheels. Very solid set of rims, nice hubs and particularly like the low key graphics.

    Love my S5’s!

These are fabulous wheels. The S5’s make for a great all-around wheel set that can be used for both training and racing. The Mercury hubs engage quickly, are very smooth and roll forever. One of the more remarkable things about this wheelset is how well they handle the crosswinds. Well done Mercury.

    Perfect on my Liv

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I wanted a nicer set of wheels that would match my bike. These are perfect with a muted logo.
They ride fast and I am able to keep up with the B group from my cycling club.

    Great wheelset!

I brought these as an upgrade to my stock alloy wheels on my older Ridley. So far I have 1600 miles on these without any issues. Also love that they’re hand built in the USA. They look great with lighter decals.

great riding wheel's and appreciate they were hand build in the US. They perform nicely on the climbs and descents.

      2nd pair of S5's

A week ago or so I bought a set of the S5 disc wheels. I liked them so much, I decided to grab a set of rim brakes for my older Merckx.
I have only ridden them once so far, but much like the disc version, they corner and handle nicely. The wheels added a different feel to the Merckx where the bike felt brand new again!
I only rode the Merckx once a month, but after the addition of the S5's, I will start riding it more and more.
I also placed a set of Michelin Power 28c tires on it, that gave it a really nice road feel.

Finally, a under 1600g + sub-$1000 wheelset that's actually very good. Plus they’re US built. They climb and handle flats well. Very impressed.
