As much as you love your 'cross wheels, knobby tires just aren't as fun on pavement when you're trying to throw down for county sign sprints in a pack of skinny tires. What your 'cross bike needs is a solid set of affordable aluminum hoops like the Mercury Wheels M1 Disc Brake Clincher Wheelset for a dose of roadie speed to knock out summer base miles and pastry-fueled group rides. Made from lightweight yet durable alloy, these wheels are the ideal training companion to give your 'cross bike new life on the road and let your race wheels take a break from the elements.
The M1's 18mm internal rim width belies a road-focused intention to provide a solid platform for today's trend of 25mm tires, and tubeless compatibility empowers those of us looking to ditch the tubes and reap the benefits of lower tire pressure and a smoother ride. While we wouldn't necessarily recommend mounting 33mm 'cross tires on rims this narrow, the tubeless compatibility and a quick consultation of the ETRTO charts indicate that they'll also serve as pit wheels in a pinch when your usual spares are at the shop for maintenance.
- A sturdy aluminum disc brake road wheel
- Aluminum rim construction balances strength, weight, and cost
- Shallow rim depth remains stable in the wind
- Ideal internal rim width for today's wider road tire trends
- Laser etched logos won't peel away
- Compatible with 6-bolt disc rotors
- Includes end caps for 12mm and 15mm front thru-axles

I currently have skewers. Will this wheel work with skewers instead of thru-axles?
These will not work with skewers. It does not appear that Mercury makes replacement end caps to allow these to work with skewers either. Give us a call at 888-276-7130 if you have further questions!
What does white/6 bolt mean? Is that just the decal color?
White is referring to the decal color. 6-bolt is referring to the rotor mounting style. Feel free to call us at 888-276-7130 or email me at email@example.com if you have other questions.
Great wheelset. Love them for CX
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
These wheels totally transformed my All-City Nature Boy. I bought a singlespeed CX bike kind of on a dare, and suffered like a dog for the first year I rode it. When I was getting ready for cross season I looked immediately to the wheels to upgrade the bike. I spent time researching wheels, talking to friends, even demo'd some other brands, and decided on the Mercury set.
Here's the best way I can describe the difference these wheels have made on my bike.
I have a singletrack / CX type trail close to my house, and have raced and trained a LOT out there. I know the lines well and there's a rideup / runup that needs the right speed, cornering to get up. I went out on the bike with my old wheelset and this little hill ate my lunch. I have to carry speed through a corner and then get almost all the way up, then stand, grind the teeth, pull hard on the bars and hopefully make it over with almost a full revolution on the cranks. Tried twice, and just couldn't clean it.
I got the Mercury set the next week, mounted the same tires and tubes and hit that trail again. I hadn't ridden all week, and first pass, up and over. I carried more speed around the approach corner, and more power went into the push at the top. It was a blast.
The wheels made such a huge difference. I'm a big dude and even standing on a singlespeed, if they flex I don't notice it.
In terms of the durability, they have taken a core shot on both the front and the rear - on separate occasions. I hit a root with the front, and a rock the rear, and they are still true and no flat spots.
Great wheels for a cross bike or a 29er
I got these wheels to use on my adventure/cross bike. Things I like:
Rims are very easy to setup tubeless.
Hubs are robust and flexible, you should be able to use with any cassette and qr/axle configuration.
Well built with even tension; many months of hard riding and everything is straight and true.
They look great with the subtle laser etched logos.
My only complaint is the rim strips that come with them. They are cheap and don't stay in place well.
Fantastic Versatile Wheel

I've specified the M1 Disc on many of the latest custom frames coming out of my shop. From gravel, cyclocross, hardtail 29er - all the way to disc randonneur, this wheel covers all the basis. As a bonus, the ability to quickly change between QR, 12mm and 15mm thru-axle, makes this wheel a fantastic option for a wide variety of riding disciplines.
Love these wheels. Very happy with them
Got these for my gravel bike I have been really happy with them. I definitely recommend them
can these be setup for front quick-release?
Yes. You'll just need the QR Front End Cap and QR Rear Axle/End Cap. I believe Competitive includes the front end caps, you'll just want to purchase the rear axle/end cap from Mercury: https://mercurycycling.com/collections/accessories/products/mtb-qr-rear-axle-end-caps
Almost certainly yes. On my bike I have the rear setup with QR, I believe the front can be too. The hubs are very flexible.
