As capable as your frame.

It’s hard to ignore the fact that the bike industry has been churning out a new class of discipline-bending, do-it-all trail and enduro machines with fewer limitations than ever. Fast climbs, cushy descents, and everything in between are par for the course for these new unshakeable monsters. If you’re going to be riding one, it deserves the right set of boots to best put its abilities on display, and Maxxis’ Tomahawk 3C/EXO/TR Tire aims to be that pair of boots. Designed to succeed throughout a huge range of all-mountain rowdiness, the Tomahawk is an aggressive, adaptable tire begging to earn a spot on the shuttle for your next ride.

Equipping a tire to roll quickly on straightaways and corner without skidding out generally means knobs with a slightly lower center profile paired with more aggressive sidewall knobs. Maxxis took this strategy to the extreme on the Tomahawk, giving it center tread that looks like it’s been flattened with a hammer, towered over by a set of squared-off side knobs eager to latch onto the trail on loose switchbacks. This drastic combination results in a tire that’s as well prepared to fly over the flats as it is to barrel down rock-encrusted descents, with the added reassurance of Maxxis’ EXO protection warding off flats. The triple compound, or 3C Maxx Terra, construction Maxxis uses gives the tire the consistency to back up the knobs’ highly specialized positioning; harder rubber along the center softens to suppler material on the sidewalls for confident cornering and speedy fire road transitions.

  • All-mountain tire bred for every kind of terrain
  • Tread profile corners and accelerates with ease
  • Triple compound construction adapts to corners and flats
  • EXO protection guards against bumps and bruises

Under the Radar

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Not one of the commonly used tires- The Tomahawk is definitely underrated. From my trail use so far ranging from aggressive trail riding to freeriding it's performed very well even climbing on wet roots and rocks. Not heavy so keeps the rear end playful and light. I love this tire!

Underrated Traction Monster

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is a great tire that gets little attention. I run it on the rear of my Yeti SB 4.5. It is more durable than the Ardent or the Ikon and faster than the High Roller. The side nobs have split and look ragged, with little loss in traction. I lean hard on the nobs and tend to bust them up, but they don't give away anything in varied riding conditions. I have had zero failures with this tire. I am based in the Midwest where we have everything from smooth dirt to sharp flint. I have traveled to CO, NC, AR and PNW trails and this tire fits the bill throughout. I ride a High Roller 2 in the front and never give my tire setup a second thought. Put on your flannel, pump up and GO with this tire.
