Rekon 3C/EXO/TR Tire
Inspired by the success of the Ikon cross country tire, Maxxis created the Rekon 3C/EXO/TR tire for more aggressive trails. Designed for hardpack, medium, and loose conditions the Rekon has larger knobs that are spaced further apart to improve grip while cornering and braking. The Rekon uses Maxxis’ 3C rubber compound to keep you glued to the ground while EXO sidewall protection fends off flats.
Wide center knobs provide extra control when braking, giving you more confidence to dive into rough terrain. The center knobs are ramped to preserve some of the fast rolling speed the Ikon was known for. The L-shaped side knobs hook up well in corners letting you carry more speed through to the next section. All knobs are siped to give them more surface area under load, further increasing traction on any trail surface. The tread pattern spaces the knobs further apart than the Ikon for better grip on loose surfaces and to help with mud-shedding.
The triple-density 3C rubber is a proven compound that balances high grip with fast rolling speeds to excel on all types of soil. The compound comes in two different versions for this tire. The 2.4in tire comes in the Maxx Terra compound which is a bit softer, maximizing grip and making this an excellent option for the front tire. The 2.25in comes in Maxx Speed, a slightly harder rubber that rolls fast and wears slower, making it a great rear tire. These are just recommendations though, either width can be used front and rear with success.
EXO sidewall protection resists abrasion, helping prevent rocks from slicing open your sidewall and allowing you to charge into rock gardens with confidence knowing your chance of flatting is reduced. The tire has a TR (tubeless-ready) bead, of course, so you can set it up tubeless with your favorite sealant but can always throw a tube in if needed.
- Aggressive trail tire for hardpack, medium, and loose trails
- Wide center knobs improve brake control for added confidence
- L-shaped side knobs offer support in loose corners
- Triple-density rubber balances grip and rolling resistance
- Maxx Terra compound prioritizes grip, great for the front
- Maxx Speed compound wears slower, great for the rear
- Sidewall protection resists abrasion to reduce risk of flats
- 2.4in Wide Trail (WT) version designed for 30-35mm internal rim widths

What is the actual tire width when mounted? Trying to determine if they fit on my older 29” mountain bike. Thanks!

Great tire
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
Came stock on my Pivot Trail 429 . I'm used to riding an XC bike and rode Vittoria Mezcal/AKA/Saguaro for a long time...I'm getting used to a bigger, burlier bike/tire and slowly testing the limits of cornering...seems like these will do the trick. Super stable, great traction, runs well at about 18 psi.

Anyone have any experience on these these in Park City and Corner Canyon moon dust? I'm looking for a faster rolling rear tire while still keeping decent climbing and braking traction. I've ridden the plus size on a Pivot Switchblade and they seemed to do well, so curious about the 2.6 on my 29er. I'm currently on Aggressor 2.5 and like it but looking for something a little less burly.

1st Ride Rip
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I rode Continentals for 7 years without issue. None. I ripped the sidewall on this tire on my first ride. Didn't even feel the bump but the tire tore about 1cm on the sidewall. Long walk back to the trailhead thinking about Continental tires.

XC Go To Tire
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
Now the front tire on my Scott Spark for XC racing. Rolls fast, sticks to most stuff, no crashes I can blame on the tire.

Needed a better tire and got it
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
After a disastrous spring and early summer on Schwalbe's (multiple punctures, flats and ripped off nobs) and no response from support; i decided to switch brands. Switched to Maxxis and have not been disappointed. These Rekon 2.4's on the front and rear of a Yeti SB100 have been great for aggressive and rocky XC and Trail riding; only 1 puncture over a 6 month period that didn't seal immediately and required a plug. We have pretty rocky and sharp edge trails so i am pretty pleased. Now have Maxxis on all my bikes. Regarding the 2 previous reviews: yes, this is a more aggressive tire than an Ardent or Ikon; its supposed to be. Yes, it is a WT tire but tires over 2.35, isn't that what you want? It works great on my 26mm internal rims so i know you can go that narrow at least.

Would you recommend the Rekon 2.4 3C maxx terra for front and Ikon 2.35 3C speed for rear if I was looking for an aggressive cornering XC/Trail setup for mostly Hardpack/Medium ? (For Ibis Ripley on 27MM ID WAO rims) Thanks

2.40 is a WT!
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
Neither the Maxxis website nor here does it specify that the 29x2.40 as WT "ideal for 30-35mm rims". The 29x2.25 is not.

Has potential to be a stellar rear tire
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
It’s a low volume 2.4 tire! I was hoping for it to have similar volume as Ardent race 2.35 or Ikon 2.35. However, the tread is more aggressive than both above mentioned tires, so traction is better

Any update? When you say low volume, do you mean they feel narrower than the 2.4? I am looking at running these as a rear tire on an Intense Primer.
