MaxxisRekon 3C/EXO/TR Tire - 27.5+
Item # MXX005E
Plus-sized traction.
The Maxxis Rekon 3C/EXO/TR 27.5+ Tire boasts beefy, widely spaced knobs built to carve all manner of trail conditions. With siped knob edges and ramped middle knobs, the Rekon pairs high-traction grip with fast rolling speed, and wraps it all up in a plush plus-sized package to smoothly rock everything from hard pack to loose and dusty.
This tubeless-ready tire mixes biting knobs with three rubber compounds to create a truly versatile ride. The supple 120 TPI casing is wrapped in a tread pattern that favors loose conditions without slowing you down on hardpack. It features moderate spacing between the center lugs and closely clustered side knobs for sure cornering bite. Those center lugs are also ramped to resist folding under braking and acceleration and the 3C Max Speed compound bridges the traction gap from packed to loose terrain.
Maxxis fashions the center knobs from a harder compound to resist wear and flex while the supple casing allows the tire to conform to irregularities in the trail. The softer side compound hooks-up and grips while leaning through switchbacks or bogging through loose trails. As a result, you gain a positive traction over wet roots and rocks and seamless transitions from straightaways into turns.
- A plus-sized tire that balances traction and puncture resistance
- 3C Maxx Speed compound increases grip
- Supple casing better conforms to trail irregularities
- Increased contact patch for versatility in all conditions
- Specific knob shaping makes the most of more volume and less pressure

Sweet tires

I really like these Rekon+ tires. They are grippy and more playful than I thought. I have them on my Carbon Chameleon with reserves and they feel plush.

Haven't had any issue with these unlike some other tire's I've used in the past. Super durable, very grippy. I've let these take a beating and haven't had any major problems while on or off the trails. Surprisingly lightweight as well.

Great traction and durability

I have 2500 +/- miles on this tire with no flats and a still a fair amount of tread left. I've had some pretty hard hits on the sidewall with no tears. Will replace this with the same tire when it finally wears out.

rolling
I like this as a rear tire, plenty of traction without a huge penalty in terms of rolling resistance or weight. Haven't had any issues with flats, sidewall tears, etc. that seem to plague a lot of the other plus tires out there. Mounted on a i35 rim it has a nice, rounded profile, tons of traction when cornering in loose conditions and lots of grip when braking.

Thin sidewalls
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I love Maxxis tires and EXO is usually adequate but these + tires only lasted 6 rides before getting a brutal sidewall slash in them that could not be repaired. Seems like the heavier dual compound tires are much beefier on the sidewalls.

Love these tires. I am riding them on my Santa Cruz Hightower. They are perfect for the dusty Park City trails.

Plus to the fun factor!

I have this tire paired with a DHF front on my Pivot Mach 429SL, and I am thoroughly enjoying the ride. Good rolling with plenty of confidence going in to the turns and gnarly stuff. Best tire combo yet!

Best plus tire on the market
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
The Rekon is a super versatile plus tire that can handle a wide variety of conditions. A standard setup often is Rekon front and rear, but if you were looking for something a little bit lighter and faster you could go Ikon Plus rear and Rekon front. On the flip side, I am running a Minion DHF Plus front and a Rekon rear to give me a ton of bite up front while still having the ligher weight Rekon spin my rear wheel up faster.

Flexible plus option
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
About 50 miles in on loose and rocky trails. Good grip and predictable cornering. I have this on the front of a stumpjumper 6fattie bike and have likes it so far. You do give up a little traction compared to a higher volume option but it is faster and corners great.

Excellent + Option
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
While it is not XC fast, this tire offers a lot of bite on the trails without too much rolling resistance. I have this set up on a Specialized Stumpjumper 6 fattie as a rear tire and am pretty stoked on it when paired with the DHF front. I am Bias, I have been running Maxxis for a few years now, and have been stoked on the quality, durability, and fantastic grip.

Durable without an insane weight penalty

Recently installed the Maxxis Rekon + on my Ibis due to the lack of durability on my last set of plus tires. After a lot of frustration with casing punctures with my other tire manufacturer I made the move to the Rekon + and have been extremely happy with the quality and performance. I have them on a i45mm rim and they measure 2.74mm after a handful of rides

I was at the SLC warehouse and measured this tire at exactly 2.6" wide on a 35 mm inner width rim on what looked like a demo bike. What are you seeing on your rim after some use?
