Ideal Tire for mixed use

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I picked this up for summer use on my cx/commuter, and this has been my favorite tire on and off the road for the past few years. Running tubeless, and the feel is fantastic. Great traction on dry cornering, but it can sure let loose on wet....see also, no siping. Traction is still good on dirt/rock singletrack, and solid for most gravel conditions but the most sandy. Durability is excellent, with my first rear failing with a bubble after about 3,000 miles.

Great tire

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

What a great all around tire for my gravel bike. They do an amazing job on pavement as well as gravel. Running them tubeless and I couldn't be more pleased. Great service from Competitive Cyclist too. Could not be happier.

Great for your gravel grinder!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I have a Trek 920 Disc (drop bar mountain/bikepacking bike) and decided to make it more road worthy. The only real change needed was to switch from knobbies to slicks. I picked up these Maxxis Re-Fuse TRs in 700 X 40c and couldn't be happier! I'm running them tubeless and highly recommend that for any genre of riding. I run MTB tubeless, Fatbike tubeless, and now these road worthy tires tubeless and have never had a bad experience doing so. Chance of flat is much less, rotational weight is much less, and carting tubes along is a thing of the past. These tires are amazing! They hold air in tubeless form as good as any tubed tire I've had, roll quietly and quickly, are light, absorb bumps, and have the puncture protection to insure a flat-free commuting or training ride. If you're contemplating a purchase, stop contemplating and buy 'em! You won't be sorry. And of course, use Backcountry for awesome prices, selection, service, and fast shipping!

Commuter

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I've been commuting on these tubeless for a couple months now. And they've been flawless. They say the best bike parts disappear from under you while you're riding, and I haven't had to think about these tires for over a month. Haven't even had to pump them up. Solid.

Easy to mount, but......

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I mounted these tires on Boyd Altamont rims set up for tubeless. I was able to get the tires on the rims by hand but they were hard to completely seat on the rims. I used a Schwalbe Air Booster at 130# to seat the tires. The rear seated correctly the first time but the front didn't fully seat after two attempts. I ended up using my floor pump to seat the tire at 80# which is over the label max. The tire needed sealant to hold pressure but it's all good now. Rolls really nice, haven't really covered enough miles to comment on durability, just wanted to address the mounting challenges. I'd buy them again.

Great tires

Threw these on a Surly Cross check and love them for ripping dirt roads or commuting to work.

did you set them up tubeless, if so how was it?

I did not, I made the mistake of purchasing non tubeless ready rims. But I believe Connor Johnson (the reviewer below me) did run them tubeless for a while and had no issues.

I have them set up tubeless! No problem at all!

Smooth

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I'm more of a mountain biker in general, but for off season riding, I rock a Diamondback Haanjo Trail. I have these mounted tubeless on HED Tomcat Disc wheels and they simply rock. I ride these on streets, gravel, and light trails. They seem to eat up bumps and vibrations well, feel super stable, and roll fast (for a 40c tire). Especially if running tubeless and dropping a bit of psi, they have a surprising amount of traction. If you have any questions on these tires and if they'd be a good fit for your CX / Gravel bike, don't hesitate giving a shout to my direct line 801.204.4547 or email cojohnson@backcountry.com!

Smooth

I love these tires. I mounted them on to my cross bike for winter training. They setup tubeless nice and easy and are very fast rolling. Great for those winter roads and closed off mountain roads with debris everywhere.

smooth and fast

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I just set up a set of wheels with the ReFuse to swap out on my gravel bike. The ReFuse tires are fast and feel great so far. I will update the review after a few more rides to comment on durability and ware and tare, but initially very impressed.

having more difficulty getting these tires to bead true. Any suggestions on amount of air i can go to with getting a correct and true bead with these tires? Was up close to 80psi but wanted to verify before i go higher. Cant seem to get ride of the slight wobble in the tire.
