I ride a combo of paved, gravel, and singletrack (some rough) and these tires fit the bill. I ride aggressively and the harder I push these tires the better they perform. They track well and you can rail around a corner or tail whip around depending on your weight point. These tires will reward a rider who gives direct inputs to their bike and has strong riding skills. They aren't a fire and forget tire, you can't just expect them to hold in all conditions but if you ride properly in any given condition you'll be rewarded. They roll fast, grip and track well. I run 40's on a 25mm inner width rim. They measure out to a little over 42mm.

I set these up before Belgian Waffle Ride Cedar City and couldn't have been happier! Sealed up great, without any issue and they roll really fast!

After reading that people had problems setting these up tubeless I was surprised, with soapy water, Orange Seal, and Airshot these went on and inflated in less than seven minutes for me. After an hour long test ride the next day I ascended 23 miles of loose sharp volcanic single track then descended down a true MTB trail to finish. I chose the 45 mm for plushness on the trails and washboards that appear everywhere in Central Oregon in late summer. These have been great so far and I would recommend to any back country drop bar explorer.

I bought 3 of these tires. 2 from backcountry and 1 from another vendor at the same time. Of the 3 tires, 2 had weeping sidewalls when setup for tubeless (Stan's standard sealant). Maxxis replaced both under warranty and now I have 2 good tires installed. One is an original that I purchased, the other is a warranty replacement. The second replacement tire sits waiting as a backup and I'm optimistically assuming it won't have problems as it came direct from Maxxis warranty. After 4 months of riding I have had no further quality issues with the 2 tires I've used. Pressure loss is usually minimal dropping from 40 to 35 psi after 2 days. Pretty typical compared to others I've used. I do about 50/50 mix of pavement and dirt on my typical routes. On pavement they run smooth and relatively quiet. Cornering is quite good. I don't feel like I'm dragging an anchor which is the feeling I've had with some cyclocross and "gravel" tires on the road. On dirt (typically loose over hardpack) they run true without much drift or squirrelliness on straightaways. Cornering is another matter. On hardpacked flat corners the tires drift somewhat predictably. On descents, corners are like a box of chocolates: you never know what you're gonna get. They might dig in and carve. They might break loose and put you off the trail. Totally unpredictable. I like the sizing and weight. The 45's have great air volume and are pleasingly light despite having reinforced SilkShield sidewalls.

Doesn't seal

The tire was pretty easy to seat on the bead but and everything sealed up nicely. After my first 40 mile ride I lost about 10psi. Took it to the LBS for a fresh rim retape. No dice. Further investigation with soapy bubbles revealed two spots on the tread that are pissing air more than Stan's can seal. Not what I would expect from "Tubeless Ready". Edit: To be clear - the bead sealed fine. The leak is coming from the tread, right at one of the knobs. Trying to change to picture to help show this (I couldn't get the close up to focus properly.).

Easy to install, seals right up tubeless. Holds air very well. Rolls nice on pavement, great grip on gravel, ok in wet / slushy conditions. I had 2 tires punctured within less than hundred miles. Happened on routes I have done many, many times with a different brand, never had any problems. Could be a coincidence but both times, something cut right through the center knobs, leaving a 1/4 inch cut. Too big to seal so I needed a tube to limp home. At the end of the ride the cut was almost double and the tube started to bulge out. A few more miles and I would have been stranded. Puncture resistance doesn't seem to be a strength of this tire.
