Minion DHR II 3C/EXO/TR Tire

Designed with paddle knobs running down the center for decreased rolling resistance and increased braking power on steep trails, the Maxxis Minion DHR II 3C/EXO/TR 27.5 Plus Tire is an optimal choice for running on the rear of your plus-sized trail bike. Unlike the Minion DHF, which can be run as an aggressive tire on the front or rear, the Minion DHR II is purposely suited for the rear for its powerful braking capabilities when you're descending on steep trails. This particular version features a high-volume casing that allows you to drastically lower its pressure for greater bump compliance and loads of traction on the trail.

This particular version brings even greater traction to your plus-sized trail rig with its 3C Maxx Terra compound, comprised of three different compounds of rubber that are progressively softer towards the upper layers touching the trail surface. Ultimately, this produces an insanely grippy tire with heightened levels of grip and overall control on the trail, albeit with a slight penalty in rolling resistance and tread longevity. This means you'll feel like you have unbelievable grip when you're riding at high speeds, braking on sketchy sections of trail, and railing corners.

EXO protection gives you additional resistance to pesky flats caused from abrasive trail surfaces, such as sharp rocks and thorny vegetation. It's a great feature to have on a plus-sized tires, which are prone to getting flats due to their lower riding pressures and wider trail footprint. Plus, EXO protection gives you this added protection without a major increase in rolling weight, so you won't notice the reinforcement slowing you down on long climbs.

There’s a reason it’s this popular

I've put it through the wringer

Sure- you pay a weight penalty and there’s some rolling resistance but braking and cornering and grip is STELLAR. They look amazing, perform amazing, and only came up one start short for the hefty price and marginal weight penalty. These things rip and when your line choice sucks they save you, and when you wanna play the “no brakes” game into a corner- they are more than happy to show off. I’m on an aggressive hard tail and love the 2.8s

Great gift for a downhill biker.

I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought these for my dad and my brother. I don't know much about mountain biking but my coworkers said that these are the best quality for the price. They used these tires downhill biking in Mammoth and loved them!

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

These 27.5 plus tires rip! These tires climb well, for a Plus, stick to anything on the DH. The front, rear compliment each other perfect.

Rolls kinda slow but traction for days. If i were worried about longevity I probably would not go with the 3c. What it gains in stickyness it looses in longevity. Deff would run this tire in the PNW but not in moab.


Would this be suitable as a front tire if i want it to roll faster when compare to DHF? Im currently running rekon+ on the rear and looking for a more chunky front tires to replace my wtb trail boss. Thank you
