MaxxisMinion DHF Wide Trail 3C/EXO/TR Tire - 27.5in
Item # MXX004T
Minion DHF Wide Trail 3C/EXO/TR Tire
Unless you recently returned from a vacation to Mars, you've noticed the "wider is better" trend taking over the mountain bike world. Maxxis is getting in on the game with its new Minion DHF Wide Trail 3C/EXO/TR 27.5in Tire, which features a tweaked tread pattern that's designed to offer better grip when mounted on wider rims by keeping the shoulders where they're supposed to be: on the shoulders.
By changing (slightly) the location and orientation of the knobs, Maxxis was able to direct cornering force straight into the edge knobs at smaller lean angles, so you get the killer grip of the classic Minion without having to lay your wide-rimmed ride all the way down and risk washing out — a distinct possibility with traditional tires mounted on wide rims.
The tread isn't the only part of the Minion WT designed to improve traction. It's tubeless ready, so you can run it at lower pressures to improve grip, and comes in both 3C Maxx Grip and 3C Maxx Terra editions, the former of which is harder and more trail-friendly than the softer, DH-crushing latter.
Both tires feature Maxxis' EXO casing, which is pliable but made to take a rocky beating, so you don't end up with sliced rubbers after shredding the pointy rocks and sharp-edged drops of trails like Moab's Porcupine Rim. Also of note is the DHF's comfort on soggy trails, which is in contrast to the DHR's jones for hardpack, loose dirt, and dry trails.
- Maxxis' iconic front tire for aggressive terrain
- Large side blocks for cornering stability
- Ramped tread design minimizes rolling resistance
- Wide trail casing optimized for 30 - 35mm rims
- MaxxGrip offers softer rebound and maximum grip
- MaxxTerra balances grip with rolling speed & wear life
- Lighter EXO casing offers sidewall protection
- EXO+ offers bead to bead protection for better puncture resistance

Knobby, grippy, goodness
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
The DHF\DHR combination of tires is a go-to for many people for good reason. The amount of grip and traction is pretty ridiculous. I swapped out my XC IKON tires due to losing traction on the trails. These new tires were used on everything from beginner level smooth trails to more advanced, leaf covered chunky descents with rocks, roots and sweeping berms. The tires have great grip and I found my speed on the downhills has improved from the increased confidence from the traction. Obviously the extra knobby set up will affect rolling resistance. I wouldn't want these on my bike if I had a long XC trail planned but, my overall time at the local trails has improved. If you ride more XC \ smooth trails then, you might consider a less knobby setup. If you are riding a good amount of gnarly\technical trails with good downhill sections then, this is a great option and the cost is good too. If you are doing a lot of downhill, this is a no-brainer.

DHF are the best

Run these front and rear. Love the 3C compound. You can go DD but then you are carrying a ton of weight. These get the job done, best compound IMO.

DHF All Day!
- Familiarity:

Best front tire hands down! Most of my riding is done in Utah where the trails are typically loose and dry. I've run the 2.3in and 2.5in (both 3C Maxx Terra) versions of this tire and the 2.5in comes out on top in terms of stability, grip, and the ability to run slightly lower tire pressures. The tread pattern combined with the 3C MAXX Terra provides exceptional grip, yet doesn't wear as quick as some of the softer rubber compounds. In my opinion this is the best front tire on the market and I can't recommend it enough!

BEST front tire period
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I have put over 2k miles on this tire and can say with confidence they are the best hands down. The good rolling resistance and cornering is amazing. I would not race with this tyre but for everything else it works the best

Great, but not invincible
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I only rode this a few times before center punching on a sharp rock and ruining the front. It was surprising, but if you want to do stuff like that, then get the double down casing I guess? Also, the description is wrong... the Maxx Grip is the softer, more DH version... and it’s heavier. For all around trail, I like the Maxx terra.

Rockin it on the rear

I blew up one of these as my rear tire (pinched in some rocks on the downhill, probably my fault air-pressure wise) but loved it so much I replaced it with a new one!

great on narrow rims too
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I'm only writing this because I was leery of putting this on a narrow rim (mine are 21mm internal), but after trying I urge anyone else in the same boat to buy this tire. tried contis (pita to seal, ok traction), liked my 2.3 dhr2 and dhf better, and then I found the 2.5 dhf......easy to seal, sheds mud, grips in the loose, and the 2.3-2.5 improvement in ride quality from lower pressure is huge. this tire is the best <$100 upgrade you can find....

Simply the Best
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
The Minion DHF (wide trail) is simply the best all around mountain tire you can have. I don't care what size wheels or terrain. If you have any sort of mountain bike that isn't racing XC this is the tire for your ride! Loads of Grip, excellent sidewall protection and great longevity. (3C/EXO/TR) If you need more you can get DD for more pinch flat durability and/or more cur resistance to the really rockiest of trails.

Is the maxxis logo white (as pictured) or yellow. I’ve ordered these before and the logo was yellow and not as pictured. Thank you, Tony

Thank you for 2.5!

I have been thoroughly impressed by this tire. I run it as the front tire on my Santa Cruz Nomad. I ride in and around Salt Lake where our trails are mostly dry hardpack, with some loose over top. I upgraded from the 2.3 after getting a new wheelset and was a little wary of decreased rolling speed with little gain in traction. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I love them! They have so much traction, especially in corners. On the first ride I felt that I could just push my front wheel into corners and it gripped all the way through. The wider footprint provides noticeably more grip from the side nobs while cornering. It also provides great traction while braking. Durability has been great, they've lasted as long as any tire I've owned. This is a killer tire for modern trail bikes!

Great Tires
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
These tires are the best I’ve run on my bike. I use them for XC and Enduro rides and races. I have a tubeless setup on my Cannondale Habit. I ride a lot of technical tracks and get a lot of sidewall impact and the tires keeping going. Great cornering grip and climbing capability. This is my second set. Will never buy anything different.

Best Tires!
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I run these tires tubeless on my Santa Cruz 5010 and absolutely love them. I'm not a fan of the 2.8 plus sized tires, but the 2.5 allows you to run lower pressure to smooth out the ride and increase grip all around (without losing too much speed). I have been nothing but satisfied in a variety of conditions!

fantastic tire

fills out my IBIS 741 rims quite well, added grip, smooth rolling, better profile than the DHF 2.3.

Excellent tire.. wider is better. Great traction on hard turns and super stable. Confidence builder!! Also helps on the rocky uphill climb. Thickness of tires help from punctures from those nasty cacti in the desert.

Get a Grip

Hands down the best front tire. The 2.5 inch width allows you to run lower pressure for additional grip and better control. I would recommend this tire for anyone looking for a reliable and confidence inspiring ride.

Fritz... the Maxxis Minion DHF has become a legendary MTB trail tire -especially on the front. Those with newly popular 30-35mm wide MTB rims (internal) seem to love the new 2.5-2.6 WideTrail sizes from Maxxis. I have 30mm wide (internal) rims on my Ibis Mojo 3. My question: Plenty of folks seem to run the same DHF tire on the rear also. But what do you recommend for the rear?? The same DHF tire in the same size on the rear? Or the DHR II in the same size, or... ?

New Go To
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I recently switched to this tire from a High-Roller II and I couldn't be happier! This tire is a lot more burly and has tons of grip in the corners. It is a pretty big tire for climbing however, it still gets the job done! I plan on using this tire for most conditions.

BURLY times!

Threw this tire on my ride and instantly noticed a major difference in the ride itself. This tire looks burly and it crushes on climbs and descents. Couldn't be happier!

This is my go to tire for most conditions. Tons of grip and unmatched side knobs that rail corners. Highly recommended.
