27.5in wheels won their place in the already crowded wheel size market with their scrappy ability to transition between 26 and 29in terrain. Given that flexibility, it's only fitting that their tires can keep up, and the Maxxis Ikon 3C/EXO/TR 27.5in Tire is equal to the task.

It's a lightweight, tubeless-ready tire that mixes biting knobs with the triple rubber 3C compound to create a truly versatile tire. The Ikon uses a 120tpi casing with EXO protection, which involves adding pinch flat and abrasion protection at the sidewall for an enhanced resistance to cuts. The casing is then wrapped in a tread pattern that favors both buff and loamy conditions due to the spacing between the center lugs and the raised side knobs. The center lugs are also ramped to resist folding under braking and acceleration.

Maxxis made the center knobs from a harder compound. So, it resists wear and flex in the knobs while taking advantage of the supple casing's ability to conform to irregularities and permitting the softer side compound to grab in corners and while navigating off camber over wet roots and rocks.

Unexpected results

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Ya these tires are fast rolling and tough, but what I didn't expect was to get so much attention from the ladies after switching to these tires.

My goto rear tire on my fully!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The Ikon has been great. Low rolling resistence with a good amount of grip. Debating on putting one up front as well but I have the HRII up there. The Ikon seems to be the choice for trail riders in my area and I have no complains about the tire!

One of my favorite XC tires

The Ikon is one of my go to cross country tires. The nice rounded profile makes the tire super predictable in corners and the new 2.35 width allows you to run a little less pressure so you can get even more traction out of the super fast rolling tire.

Excellent tire

Replaced my worn Nobby Nic and Racing Ralph on 2017 Anthem Advanced 1. These are at least as good (Racing Ralph) and probably better (Nobby Nic). Extremely satisfied. Tubless is the way to go. Used in primarily dry to moist and slick to tacky conditions.

Very Durable

When mountain biking in the Ozarks, it can be difficult to find a tire that can handle all of the flint rock. I have gone through several tires on the first ride and nothing can be more frustrating than mounting a new tire and slicing the sidewall first ride. The only tires that have held up the best in my opinion when sharp rocks are all over the trail is any tire from Maxxis with their thickest compound. I have gotten the most life out of tires with the 3C/EXO/TR sidewall compound. I am also a huge fan of the Ikon tread pattern, it is super fast rolling, with alot of traction. It's a go to tire for me.

Perfect XC tire

Bought these to replace my Rocket Ron's after one too many flats. So far I have been riding these all summer around Park City without a problem. They corner well, the traction is great, and they are very reliable.
