Description

Unstoppable.

Minimal rolling resistance, light, and race ready, the Maxxis Aspen EXO/TR 29in Tire is hungry to gobble up miles of rolling singletrack at top speeds. Affirming that wagon-wheels are the true dominators of cross-cross country, the Aspen packs in low-profile directional lugs in the center tread for rocketing on the straightaways, and aggressive side lugs that keep the confidence high when you barrel into corners. A high-volume casing helps to smooth out rock gardens and jarring root lattices, while EXO protection works to shield you from side punctures. The dual-compound construction means you've got hard, fast-rolling rubber in the center to keep you at top speeds, and extra grip on the sides that keeps you locked into loose berms.

  • A light and swift tire for XC race days
  • Low-profile directional center propels you forward
  • Keep locked into corners with aggressive side lugs
  • Minimal rolling resistance for gaining speed
  • High-volume casing soaks up rocks and roots
  • EXO protection shields sidewalls

Very fast and light.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These things move uphill, downhill, and every which way extremely fast. They are light, too. Additionally, I haven't had one flat on them yet and I typically run a bit rough on my tires to the point that I get more flats than the next guy. I've been extremely happy with these tires so far. I use them for XC and for riding the road to my local XC trails. I've done a couple races on them and I can notice a difference in speed, for sure.

Anyone getting these tires can probably guess they don't hook up as well in the corners and they don't do well in anything wet. Anything that's lose over hard, you better be on your guard. Be timid as hell until you know their limits. But for a fast rolling, light weight tire, I'd argue these probably hook up better than the others out there.

I'm running them front and back and I have about 600-700 miles on them.

Nino Schurter runs these...

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Since these are the tire of choice for the fastest guy in XC racing, it only stands to reason that if I run these tires, I will also be the fastest guy, at very least the fastest guy at my local races. Right? These roll mega fast, they are super light and offer more grip than you would think. With all of that said, this is really a racing tire and I wouldn't recommend it for general trail use. I feel like the traction was better than I had anticipated, but not as good as my trusty Ikon/Ardent race combo, at least during dusty mid-summer rides here in Utah. When the dirt is more packed and less loose, these things really shine.

How are these compared to Schwalbe's Thunder burt? Racing ralph?
I usually run ralph/burt combo for crazy speed or ardent race/ikon combo for loose dirt.
