2016 finds Mavic's defining Ksyrium Wheelset unchanged, and as the most affordable model in the line, it continues to carry on the long-established tradition of affordable dependability that has defined the Ksyrium line for over a decade. Whether you're a weekend warrior or you're adding another set of training hoops to your rotation, the Ksyriums continue to be a valuable set of wheels to have on-hand.

The Ksyrium's versatility has long suited it to endurance riders or anyone whose weekly miles might feature a mix of road conditions, and that was exactly Mavic's intention. The welded S6000 aluminum Mavic uses to construct the venerable rims gives them the type of lightness you'll want for an everyday wheel, along with the durability to take on miles of weather-beaten shoulders, chip-sealed side roads, and the rare smooth stretch of freshly-paved tarmac. When you need to slow down, Mavic ensures braking is smooth and consistent along a CNC-machined surface, and the surface of the rim receives added reinforcement along areas that are subjected to heavier stress from the spokes in a technique called Hammer Hardening, reducing the likelihood of the rim cracking or warping over time.

Twenty bladed, straight-pull steel spokes link the reliable aluminum rims to Mavic's workhorse QRM hubs, with the front wheel's spokes laced radially and the rear arranged in Mavic's Isopulse pattern. Isopulse refers to Mavic's use of two-cross and radial lacing on the rear wheel, with two-cross on the drive side and radial on the non-drive side to balance tension and better equip the rear wheel to manage the stress of training and heavy loads of light touring. The sealed bearing QRM hubs the lack the on-bike micro-adjustability of their pricier QRM+ counterparts, but they're designed with the same tight internal clearance for a stiff ride. Mavic includes single-compound 25mm Yksion tires, BR101 quick-release skewers, and rim tape.

Bomb Proof

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The Ksyrium has always been an all-rounder wheelset, and these continue in that vein, with an excellent balance of strength and speed. They’re not the lightest wheels in that class any more, but maintain their competitive edge, feeling taut and lively. A few prods on the pedals incites a rapid reaction from and an instant increase in speed, though the braking tracks did have a slightly sharp edge.

In short Mavic has taken all that was good about the original Ksyriums and updated them to and produce a great value, versatile pair of wheels.

Would these wheels be a good choice for a heavier rider (210 lbs.)?

Sin, I know it's a late response, but 210 is fine for these wheels. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
