Description

Modernizing a classic.

While the rim brake version of Mavic's new Ksyrium Pro Carbon SL Disc Clincher Wheelset basks in the limelight garnered by its iTgMAX braking surface, this wheelset sits smugly by its side with a similar full-carbon rim construction and the incomparable stopping confidence of disc-brakes. With a few extra spokes to manage the additional forces of disc brakes, the Ksyrium Pro Carbon SL Disc brings renowned Mavic reliability in a featherweight package that pairs effortlessly with your shiny new disc-equipped road frame.

Mavic uses 3K carbon fibers to shape the rims in a bullet-nose profile. Mavic constructed it specifically with climbing in mind, so the 25mm-deep wheels are dependably stable while riding in crosswinds and tackling winding, long ascents. Mavic also paid close attention to the wheels' impact resistance, which earned high ratings, ensuring the wheels will be able to withstand long days on chip-sealed roads and weather-beaten shoulders while you're dreaming of buttery soft tarmac.

Though it tends to privilege tradition, Mavic's Instant Drive 360 freehub shows it's not afraid of well-executed change by making it the first manufacturer to introduce a mass-produced wheel with a ratchet ring engagement system. The design is centered on a 40t, dual ratchet construction that boasts nine degrees of engagement. This marks a significant step forward for factory-built wheels because it features the kind of responsiveness and longevity normally reserved for third party hubs on hand-built wheels.

The Instant Drive 360 hubs also feature more reliable, no-contact seals as a barrier against damaging road grit, and they save a claimed 40g compared to the FTS-L hubs. The new hubs are laced to the rims with 24 straight-pull steel spokes arranged in Mavic's Isopulse pattern, with radial drive-side and two-cross non-drive side. This pattern provides the right balance of stiffness, preparing the wheels to manage the added torque from disc brakes and reducing wobbles while braking on steep descents.

The Ksyrium Pro Carbon SL Disc Clincher Wheelset includes Mavic's Yksion Pro tires, with GripLink up front for increased cornering confidence and PowerLink in back for a smooth, fast rolling ride. Regardless of position, though, both tires receive a nylon breaker for flat protection. Each wheelset is also packaged with 12mm adapters for the front hub, 12 x 142mm adapters for the rear hub, disc bolts, rim tape, a user's guide, and a multifunction adjustment wrench.

Unanswered Question

is it 12mm thru-axle hub?

Unanswered Question

Do these come with everything to be compatible with 9mm QR frames? There is a mention of 12mm adaptors but I don't see anything referencing 9mm.
Thank you
