For all things 'cross.

Although they're billed as XC race shoes, we can't help but think that the Mavic Crossmax SL Pro Carbon Men's Shoes would also make one heck of a cyclocross weapon. Featuring Mavic's Energy Grip Terra Carbon Outsole, these shoes transfer power in a flash while aggressively lugged Contragrip rubber provides exceptional grip for dabs and scrambling up muddy embankments.

Mavic incorporates perforations and strategic mesh paneling in the Crossmax SL Pro Carbon's upper for a dose of ventilation and breathability to keep feet cool through dusty summer rides. An Energy Lock heel cup reduces heel slip and holds the shoe firmly in place. An Ergo Ratchet strap wraps across the top of the foot, while two Ergo hook-and-loop straps span the midfoot and forefoot to dial in a customized fit that's easily adjustable on the fly.

  • Cross-country racing shoe maximizes energy transfer and grip
  • Energy Grip Terra Carbon sole for efficient power delivery
  • Contagrip rubber overlays deliver aggressive traction
  • Synthetic upper with strategic mesh for ventilation
  • Ergo straps with Ergo Ratchet closure at the ankle
  • Ergo Fit 3D+ Ortholite footbed for supportive cushioning
  • Streamlined race aesthetic with contrasting color scheme

Magic Crossmax Pro Carbon SL

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Shoe is very stiff, and seems to be true to length, but is wide and tends to slip on the heel.

Love the shoe!!!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 10

Excellent shoe, very stiff yet very comfortable. Great traction when off bike.

Exactly as pictured and they are of great quality. I would definitely use these again as I've used the Mavic Furys for the past 2 years without any issues.

I've raced in them and rode a 76 mile ride with no foot pain.

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

Took shoe our of the box and right away it looked different from the pictures online. These shoes just look very cheaply made. Looks like the upper is some sort of low-grade vinyl rather than a material worthy of this asking price. Unfortunately, Backcountry still charges the customer return postage fees so I had to pay $6.99 to find this out. Don't waste $6.99 on return shipping fees and go with something better.

Lack of Consistency is biggest downfall.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 11

Purchased another pair of Mavic shoes to replace ones from a few seasons ago. Was disappointed in the sizing - my old shoes were 10.5 US and had to replace my order with half size up, and the toe box is still a bit tight. Also, the heel is much roomier than my previous shoes and causes some heel slip. Obviously when purchasing online, have products be consistent is integral.
Beyond that, the shoes are great, very stiff. Still dialing in the shoes as I'll get numb feet/toes here and there: depending on distance and/or effort.
