Description

Comete Ultimate MIPS Helmet

Building a safe, lightweight, aerodynamic, and breathable helmet is no easy task, however, it’s a little more manageable to hit those goals when you have the right experience and access to high-quality materials and that’s exactly what you get with the Comete Ultimate MIPS Helmet from Mavic. With a shape honed in the wind tunnel, this quick road helmet slices through the wind giving you an edge during fast training and on race day with plenty of comfort and added safety features.

Aero helmets often come with a few penalties, namely extra weight and lack of ventilation, but not so with the Comete. At just 215g, it's as light as they come and its refined aero shape optimized to reduce drag in wind tunnel testing offers an advantage when off the front or during sprints while its airflow channels and vents offer maximum ventilation on the climbs. Comfort wasn't overlooked either and it features the unique Live Fit SL technology, providing an adaptive fit without extra weight thanks to its XRD memory foam that molds to your head shape, along with an innovative new Autofit strap system using lighter, simpler webbing that won't twist or interfere with your ears and a perfect chin strap adjustment.

Of course, any helmet worth its salt needs to be safe and Mavic claims that its EPS-4D technology provides 30% better shock absorption than standard EPS construction. Furthermore, it uses the latest MIPS system, which can help reduce the rotational forces transferred to the brain from angled impacts in a crash with its low-friction inner layer.

  • Mavic's aero helmet that's also lightweight and vents well
  • Large vents provide cooling airflow
  • Live Fit SL tech adjusts to your head shape
  • EPS-4D offer 30% better shock absorption than standard EPS foam
  • MIPS technology may help reduce rotational forces of certain impacts
  • Autofit system offers perfect no-fuss chin strap adjustment

First, the size chart was correct for my measurement. Second, the helmet has the MIPS technology, plus Mavic's additional safety technology. I have no desire to test these safety technologies but my old Mavic road helmet has taken a beaten on the MTB trails with no injuries sustained to my head after numerous falls on the trails. Third, the helmet is very light and comfortable on short and long road rides. Fourth and final, the helmet looks GREAT with a low profile. Wish all helmets were wind tunnel tested but if looks count, maybe wind tunnel testing isn't the deciding factor!

What’s the color of the total eclipse version? Can’t tell from the picture if it’s a darker shade of blue or purple.

    Thought Mavic claims were BS--NOPE!

    Fit:
    True to size

When I picked up the box I thought for a second CC sent me an empty box by mistake. I have the Giro Synthe (about 285g) and Air Attack (like 385g'ish, well I remember it was in the 300s). This helmet is a replacement for the latter. In comparison, its lighter, more comfortable, and "feels" more aero even with my head turned at a 90 deg angle. Less wind noise, too. In 50+ years of cycling, this one is the best..The straps are just as Mavic promised, too, and despite some bogus reviews, the helmet is about 215g with the MIPS included. True to size (I'm a Large at 60cm). Don't usually write reviews but I'm so happy with this choice.
