Simply faster.

It's hard not to get excited about Mavic's Tubeless Comete Pro Carbon SL UST Wheelset. It has a lot of modern tech going on to help you perform at your best on race day. As some of the lightest wheelsets in its category, the ride is addictive encouraging you to accelerate and sprint any chance you get on these responsive wheels. It'd be a shame to only reserve them just for days when you pin on a number so it's good to know that they're durable enough to ride every day. This is Mavic's most aerodynamic carbon rim paired with the incredible rolling efficiency of road tubeless and impressive braking when you have to rein in all that speed.

As one of Mavic's latest road wheelsets, it incorporates the latest rim technologies giving you a definite aerodynamic advantage on your ride. The rim profile is built using 3k carbon fiber to a new NACA profile rim that’s 64mm deep and 26mm wide, perfect for today's modern wider tires. Mavic spent countless hours testing in the wind-tunnel to hone this airfoil into a shape that produces the lowest drag possible and still offered stability in windy conditions. The resulting wide, rounded shape helps when racing against the clock, driving the breakaway, or the final dash to the line without feeling sketchy in a crosswind so you can stay in an aero tuck or on your aerobar extensions longer.

When it's time to scrub speed, you'll quickly come to love the iTgMax carbon rim technology. A laser is utilized to remove the first layer of resin on the brake track allowing the pads to get a better bite and create more friction. This process helps improves braking on sinuous canyon roads no matter if your local weather is in the midst of a drought or you ride through a surprise spring shower.

Mavic's all-new UST Road Tubeless technology has been a revolution for us. Mavic claims an improvement in rolling efficiency up to 15% when compared to non-tubeless tires at equal air pressure. Of course, we're familiar enough with road tubeless that we've come to expect the improved ride quality that comes with running lower air pressures allowing more confident cornering and improved traction. What we aren't so familiar with is the ease of the tubeless setup. Mavic engineered super tight tolerances between the rim and tire so it's easy to install by hand, beads up with your typical floor pump and reliably holds air. The wheels come with Mavic's Yksion Pro UST tires that are partly responsible for the easy setup and roll fast while remaining grippy and puncture free.

The Instant Drive 360 freehub has a 9-degree engagement system for quick acceleration. QRM bearings are double sealed to keep contaminants out so the hubs keep spinning freely season after season. Finally, Isopulse spoke lacing sees radially laced spokes on the drive side with a 2x on the non-drive helping to balance spoke tensions and improve stiffness on those out of the saddle climbs and sprints.

  • Deep wheels for maximum aero performance
  • UST tubeless ready for rolling efficiency and flat prevention
  • Blunt-faced rim profile improves stability in winds
  • Instant Drive 360 hubs offer quick engagement

Do you have these in disk brake version?

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Great wheels; very fast and they look great. I was skeptical about the 64mm depth in crosswinds; I run 50's on my TCR but these are about the same as those and my Zipp 404's, maybe slightly worse. Got caught in a storm in a group ride a few weeks ago, wind gusted to 40mph most people stopped but surprisingly I was able to ride through it; I'm 180lbs and I'm sure that helped. 404's sprint faster but the Comete's carry speed better and handle extremely well. Came with tubes installed and I ran with tubes the first couple hundred miles then switched to tubeless and will never go back; running lower pressure and it's much more comfortable. These wheels came on a Canyon Aeroad CF SLX 9.0; outstanding combination of aero bike and wheels. About 2500 miles on them so far; no issues no flats; running the Mavic Yksion Pro tires that are made specifically for this rim.

Awesome Deep Section Wheels

Mavic's entire lineup of road UST wheels have been great and this wheel is no exception. The ID360 hubs are Mavic's clone of DT Swiss' legendary Star Ratchet system, so you'll get no complaints there. They weigh in at around 1630 grams, which is pretty respectable for a 64mm deep wheelset. Once these wheels get spun up, they keep spinning along really nicely. Obviously you're going to get some control issues in bad crosswinds as you would with any deep section wheelset, but these felt a lot closer to some other close competitors from Zipp or Enve rather than something like an older v-profiled Reynolds DV66. Lastly, Mavic ships these with tubeless tires already mounted. Just pour the sealant in the valve stem, pump up the tires with your floor pump, and you should be good to go. Air your tires way down from what you normally do without the danger of a pinch flat (i run at about 75 psi on mine). If you're looking for a great set of TT, triathlon, or crit wheels, or live in a pretty flat area and dont mind the occasional crosswind tugging on your steering, you should give these wheels a shot

Peter, I notice the description says that they are "tubeless ready" but can I simply run them with some latex tubes? I know it might decrease the rolling resistance some as tubeless is for optimal performance but I am hesitant to mess with sealants and the like. That aside, the wheels have the depth I am looking for and have received very strong reviews from several magazines, in addition to your own positive experience.
