Bomber Z1 27.5 160 Grip Sweep-Adj Boost Fork
The original Marzocchi Bomber Z1 was an advocate for aggressive riding in the early days of mountain biking, being the first fork to focus on performance and durability instead of just saving weight. It was overbuilt and had plush travel that helped push the limits of what could be ridden on a mountain bike. Twenty years later the Bomber Z1 is back, reincarnated by Fox Racing Shox. The Bomber Z1 27.5 160 Grip Sweep-Adj Boost Fork uses proven air spring and damping technology from Fox, wrapped up in a bombproof chassis. It's intended for technical all-mountain trails and enduro racing, coming in at a price point that leaves you with plenty of cash for race entry fees and epic riding trips.
The Bomber Z1 has 6.3in of smooth travel, suitable for burly all-mountain lines and tricky enduro stages. Drop into the trail with confidence, letting the travel soak up nasty rock gardens and gnarled root sections with composure. In order to come down you must go up, so the travel can be firmed up or even locked out to improve pedaling efficiency.
The travel is provided by a FLOAT EVOL air spring. EVOL stands for "extra volume" and denotes the air spring's larger negative air volume, making the initial travel more sensitive for silky-smooth small-bump absorption. The mid-stroke is supportive to help resist fork dive when you grab the brakes on steep descents. As you near the end of the travel the bottom-out progression is smooth, preventing harshness on larger impacts. The air spring's progression can be tuned by adding or removing volume spacers, if needed.
Damping duties are handled by the FIT GRIP damper—a proven design known for durability and consistency. GRIP is an appropriate name as the damper's impressive sensitivity provides unwavering traction on any trail. The adjustments are uncomplicated, simplifying setup so you can get out riding sooner. There is just one compression dial and one rebound dial. The compression dial combines high and low-speed compression in a sweeping design, meaning it turns from fully open to lockout with no clicks, letting you stop anywhere along the way once the setting feels right.
With a long travel fork like this it's important to have a stiff chassis. Stout 36mm stanchions and bombproof lowers help prevent unwanted flex, ensuring the Bomber Z1 tracks well on rough terrain.
