Description

X-tremely useful.

A light but resilient wind jacket like the Louis Garneau Men's X-Lite jacket is arguably the most useful top you can own. It can be a light layer for windy or only slightly chilly days. It can be an element-proof outer layer over a thicker jacket or long-sleeve jersey when the temperature drops or the rain approaches. And, since it's easily packable, it's easy to pull off and stuff into a jersey pocket when it's no longer needed. It's a smart piece, and it's worth every penny.

The X-Lite's construction is simple and effective, using two fabrics from LG's X-Lite family. X-Lite 19 is the business end of the jacket. It's wind resistant, has a high denier for durability, and still manages to breathe well so your wind-free microclimate doesn't turn clammy and damp after 30 minutes in the saddle. X-Lite Mesh is a lightweight mesh designed for one thing: comfort. Well, and stretch. And breathability. OK, so it does lots of things, all of which make it the material you want for optimal ventilation, which is why LG uses panels of it for the X-Lite Jacket's underarms.

The jacket is cut according to LG's pro fit, which means it's snug enough for racing and there's no extra material to flap in the wind that it's designed to block. The articulated elbows and stretch trim at the collar, wrists and hem mean you'll be able to move freely in the saddle — including reaching into jersey pockets through the rear access back opening — without compromising comfort. The full-length zipper has a neck garage to eliminate chafing, a full-length flap, and reflective accents. The chest and upper back have yet more reflective elements to help keep you visible in low-light conditions.

The Louis Garneau X-Lite Men's Jacket is available in six sizes, ranging from X-Small to XX-Large, and in the colors Black/red, Orange Fluo, and White/black.

Super light weight

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I’ve only used this once but I’m liking it. I like how light it is and easy to stow away if I need to. The pocket access on the back is well thought out and allows me to still use my jersey pockets. It stuffs down to about 1/3 the size of my other jackets. Size up... it runs small.

Small and noisy

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

I like the orange color. It is definitely light weight. Sizing is not proportional nor as stated in the sizing chart. My 40" chest barely fits, and it is supposed to go up to 42". The flap in the back opens the full width of the back which results in major wind flapping when riding downhill or anytime over 15 mph. I added 5 individual drops of shoe goo along the flap to mitigate the flapping and noise, but then you don't have access to a jersey if you need that.
After one month, the fabric faded substantially. Sent it back.

Mt Descents covered.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Folds up and disappears in jersey pocket. Getting lots of use descending CO National Monument spring and fall. Love it.

Packable lightweight

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

My Louis Garneau X-Lite Jacket has definitely saved me from some quick storms, or cold days I wasn't quite dressed for. I keep it in my pack at all times when mountain biking and bust it out when the wind gets high, or rain starts to fall. It packs down super small, making it a really versatile piece.

As the other reviewer mentioned, it is SUPER light weight, but that's part of the appeal. It doesn't take up much space at all. It won't keep you warm if it's truly cold outside and you're not properly layered, but it'll keep the elements off of you, which will definitely help out regardless of what your base layer situation is.

Louis Garneau does run a bit small (compared to mountain bike clothes at least), so I sized up twice to allow me to have room for a baggy jersey underneath, but if you're typically a roadie and don't wan't to have it flapping in the wind behind you, I'd recommend sticking with your normal jersey size on this piece.

I agree on the sizing. Size for the large is not as listed in the sizing chart. Maximum check size should be 40", not 42".

Very lightweight

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

I gifted the 'orange fluo' color jacket to my dad for Christmas last year. He had been looking for the perfect lightweight jacket for his early morning rides before it got too hot and this was it! Just enough coverage for the cool mornings while the sun still comes up. The jacket packs down to pretty much nothing and can fit in most jersey pockets (which is a bonus) so it's easily accessible.
