Excellent Tri Shoes, Garneau delivers!!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 48

As the title suggests, these have been excellent Triathlon specific shoes. They were my second pair of LG shoes purchase from Competitive cyclist as I bought their Signature 84 shoes not long before this pair. Sizing is spot on as stated, and even allowed for custom footbeds to be inserted with very little interior room sacrificed. Ventilation is fantastic, and while I haven't tested out their water shedding capabilities, putting miles down in Houston accounts for quite a soggy ride, regardless of just coming out of the water or not. The single strap securing the large part of your foot is firm and well balanced. Some testing was needed to find the sweet spot in how tight to pull them when I first put them on and throughout my training rides. The heel cup holds well and I don't get any slippage barefoot or with socks on. I'll also add that if your feet aren't accustomed riding sockless, you'll have to content with some minor chafing until the contact points of your feet toughen up a bit. It was after a 100mi training ride that I have some minor raw spots, but nothing that bled freely. Power transfer is excellent, and in no ways uncomfortable. I've found LGs full carbon soles to be as solid as they come without causing any pressure points or hot spots while putting down big power. Depending on how your fit is dialed in and your cleat position while on the extensions, you'll know where the sweet spot is for optimal power output/comfort. I've only ever ridden Specialized shoes from the time I started cycling, after spending time in both of these LG shoes i'll admit that the value for your money is more than worth it. It's been about 6months with them, and they've held up great, though I'm not hard on my equipment at all. I'm curious to see how they are doing after a year or even longer, but up to this point, they've been worth the money spent a few times over.

Garneau to the Rescue

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I had some Bontrager cycling shoes, and they literally became unglued on a ride. I rode ten miles with my feet literally sitting on top of the pedals. I ordered these and did the MS 150 in them. They were a trifle big (my fault), but comfortable and serviceable. I'm going to use them for triathlon too; I love the large loop at the back of the shoe for taking them off quickly. Very satisfied.
