Our favorite feature of Louis Garneau's P-09 Helmet is definitely the fact that, instead of just a fairing attached to a normal EPS foam body, the P-09 is built from the inside out in an aerodynamic shape. Since the inside is fully supported — even the truncated tail — it holds up better to daily abuse and won't warp when left in a hot car before your event.

The helmet is designed to have minimal frontal surface area, making it more compact, and a landscape of dimples across its brow disturbs air just enough to increase flow over the helmet. The P-09's tail is reversed for a better airflow at the shoulders, with a port that allows air to enter at the front and exit through vents behind the ears, releasing any forward pressure. The redesigned vent also works with deeper evacuation channels for improved airflow and ventilation.

The lens system includes a visor that lifts up for fast and easy transitions, and it can be removed using just one hand. Keeping the helmet stable is Garneau's Spiderlock Pro II that uses a polymer neck support and can be adjusted on the fly with a simple twist of the retention dial. Rounding out the helmet is the Steplock divider that adjusts the length and position of the straps with a locking cam design.

Awesome, FAST helmet; Sizing gap

Helmet, although a few years old in design, is still one of the few helmets that tests FAST on 80% of the people; Helmets are a gamble otherwise as far as aerodymanics since it is so personal.

I used it so far, including in 2 races, and it is great! You forget it is on, which is what you want. I do not use the visor, it is also known that it does not test any slower without it.

Only problem, if you have a really small head like me (about 54.5 cm) there is a sizing gap: the small is way too small.. I doubt a child older than 9 yrs old can put his head in it; And the medium size (which fits fine for me in the 'course' helmet of the same brand) is too lose: the ratchet in the smallest position does not go far enough to provide a secure fit. I had to pad the back with a thickness of foam and add a few cushions in the lid to provide correct fit.

As a fifteen-year veteran Masters time-trialist, I now fuss over every little nuance trying to compensate for inevitable age-related losses! I had been wearing a Rudy Wingspan for the past several years and decided it was time for an upgrade. I tried a friend's Bell Javelin, which is a very nice, high-quality helmet, but for my head-down, David Millar-type body position I felt it was not optimal. When I was in a perfect position with chin up and back flat, it felt great. However, once I got fatigued or lazy and dropped my head, I could feel and hear the tail blowing around, which then just messed with my head even more!

Hence, I decided that one of the shorter tailed brands would be more appropriate. Furthermore, it seems that recent research has concluded that on average, such designs are more efficient in the real world, as most riders don't or can't maintain that perfect
