Forget it; the Mesh Carbon is for cycling.

The Garneau Mesh Carbon Sleeveless Base Layer is supremely light, at about half the fabric weight of most jerseys. It's ultra-permeable to let a maximum amount of air flow reach your skin. The Carbon Ion Mesh material is knit to maximize wicking power and is textured on the inside to literally stand the base layer away from your skin so that there may be a micro thin cooling zone. The curvy, flat stitched seams won't chafe your sides and they give it just that touch of class.

Cool fabric, but has weird fit

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Large

Ok, so the fabric is nice and wicks very well. I've been riding it regularly in hot and humid conditions and it stays cool. But.... The fit is a problem. It runs small, which can be corrected by sizing up, but it pinches or bunches up at the neck and arm holes. I don't notice it much wearing a pack on my commute, but without the pack it still feels like I have straps pulling at my skin.

I wanted to like it

I believed the size chart and bought a large, I am 6 ft, 175 with a slimmish build. Lg is not remotely close to fitting, much too small even for a tight fitting baselayer. It certainly will not fit a 42 in chest. I also bought the Castelli Ice Prosecco baselayer in XXL since I have previous experience with Castelli sizing and it fits fine although slightly loose. LG/CC should update their sizing chart and I should have read the other reviews. Returning and incurring a $7 shipping fee.

Solid, light, cool base layer

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

This is a great, light-weight, breathable base layer. It doesn't have the kind of flex as other base layers, so you need to get the right size. One commenter mentions that the neck is loose, but all the LG base layers I have are like that, and I think it's intentional. I prefer the loose neck to a tourniquet choking me when I'm on the rivet.

weird fit, especially neck area

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small

I wanted to like this, the material seemed good, good company and all, and the fit wasn't bad, once I exchanged the med size and got the large (I'm 5'11' 160), but the neck on the item is kind of bagged out, folded over even, it actually looks like an old t-shirt that's long pass it's day. Since that's the only area of the base layer you'll see, it's a major fail imho.

Never ride without it

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Living in Houston, we get a mix of the hot/humid weather along with some low 30's/upper 20's mornings in the winter. This has become my base layer for riding in any temperature. The textured finish does a great job of wicking away perspiration. The LG Carbon Base Layer is very thin and light so it does not add any bulk under a jersey or bibs. The finish feels great. I think you will be very happy with this product.

Very Nice

If you are new to cycling you might think, "adding more layers to stay cooler is crazy!" But with the awesome technology of fabrics and sewing techniques these layers do just that. They make it more comfortable to ride in hot weather. I love these and have a few of them. I have ridden in 80-115 degrees F and I can tell a difference between just a jersey and pairing my jersey with one of these. They seem less sticky and much more comfortable. 5 stars.

Is the fabric mesh on both sides, or is...

Is the fabric mesh on both sides, or is the inside smooth ?

    Best Answer

It is the same mesh like carbon fabric on the whole thing. The inside is very smooth and feels great. The seams are well placed and are smooth.

    Essential

I ride, race, and train in this top. I really like it, I really like the tight fit and how it wicks moisture off my body to keep me cool. Even on the hottest days I wear this. I feel that craft rules this category and i have many of there tops also. This is the one competes with the best. Give it a go

      Fits well and feels good

Haven't quite determined if it actually makes me feel cooler on hot days. I mainly got it for extra SPF protection under my thin jerseys.
