Description

Darkhorse.

Louis Garneau shoes fly a little off of most people's radar which is a shame because it always packs a ton of innovative features and designs. Its newest top-tier shoe, the Course Air Lite II Shoe, is one that we're super excited about building on Garneau's stiffest sole and the X-Comfort Zone upper which provides exceptional adaptability for all foot sizes at the front of the shoe.

Garneau starts off with a racer fit that fits the foot snugly and reduces the stack height to the pedal. The high-density microfiber upper helps improve the power transfer and is seamless so there's no pressure points or hot spots for improved comfort. What makes these shoes the most interesting is the Boa IP1-S closure which tightens the laces on multiple anchoring points for a near custom fit. Think comfort and adjustability of laces with the convenience and security of a dial closure. The Boa TX system is an under-lace woven system prevents road grime from getting into the guides and improves aerodynamics. Returning feature include the stiff Powerzone system on the central part of the shoe, which wraps around the foot eliminating any movement when you are pulling up on the pedals. The included Transfo 3D insole has 3 adjustable arch wedges that allow you to choose the level of support you need. Titanium inserts fit all 3-hole road cleats and help bring the weight down to an amazing 222 grams for a size 42 shoe. The Course Air Lite II Shoe offers excellent comfort, high performance, and impressive ventilation at the lowest weight.

Very comfortable

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

After at least 5 shoe purchases and returns, I finally found a keeper. Working with Zack Foley of Competitive has really helped me find this shoe. I ride about 7,000 miles a year and admittedly am particular on my shoes. I wrote a review previously on the Shimano Sphyres and they were very nice and comfortable but after 50-60 miles, the stitching on the interior Boa dial would be rubbing my pinky toe, which i found a couple other people had the same problem. I have ridden Sidi Ergo 4's forever and recently tried the Wire and the Pushes but the toe box just seemed too narrow and the Mega didn't help as it was too loose. I love the comfort of the Giro Empires but the only draw back was i found myself tweaking the lacing frequently and I wanted something as comfortable but with quick and easy adjustment.......Wala: the Garneau Course Air light 2.
I did the maiden voyage yesterday and did 72 miles in them: extremely comfortable but yet extremely stiff on the pedal pull up and felt like i had every bit of the same power as the Sidi's, only much more comfortable. The ventilation is unbelievable on the bottom of the sole and they do come with cool inserts (perforated Holes)
and hot inserts for different seasons. We'll see how warm they are in the winter but they're a keeper for me. I normally take a 42.5 in the Giro's and Sidi's and a US 9 but I tried the recommended 42's according to the Garneau sight and they were just a little tight front to back so i went to the 42.5's and they fit best for thin socks, thick socks, or custom inserts with the toe box perfect. So i would say they run true to size
Forgot to mention I also tried the Giro Prolight techlace but the sizing just didn't fit. The 42.5's were too big and the 42's were a little too tight but they seemed comfortable with easy adjustment FWIW

Very comfortable but toe guard scuffed

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 43

Shoes fit great right away. Wasn't sure on size but worked out well. Other reviews indicated toe guard easily scuffed. They were right as scuffed gray toe guard down to white exposed underneath after only one ride.....
