Look CycleKeo Road Cleat

Keo Road Cleat
If you're starting to have problems of any sort with your Look pedals -- accidental disengagement, squeaking, etc -- new cleats are almost always what the doctor will order. How do you wear out cleats? Walking in them is one way, clipping in and out thousands of times through years of stopping at red lights is another.
Built from a Polyamide Nylon with co-molded Teflon toe and heel inserts, they'll last longer than the previous generation of Look cleats, they'll engage and disengage with substantially less friction, and they'll be a whole lot quieter as you pedal.
One very vital note about Look's Bi-Material cleats: They come in two styles. If you have the Keo pedal system, you must purchase the Keo-specific cleats. If you have any other style of Look pedal -- any model, any year -- you need to choose the Delta cleat. Keo cleats are NOT compatible with any Look pedal system except the Keo. The Delta cleat is compatible with all Look pedals systems except the Keo.
The Keo cleats are available in two options: One is the "Red" cleat that allows for 9 degrees of rotational float. The other is the "Grey" cleat that allows for 4.5 degrees of rotational float. You'll get 2 cleats along with all of the hardware to secure them to your shoes.
- Polyamide nylon with co-molded Teflon toe and heel inserts
- Red (for 9 degrees of rotational float) or grey (for 4.5 degrees of rotational float)
- Keo Road Cleats are only compatible with the Keo pedal system

Hard to unclip
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I have power meter pedals that are Look cleat compatible. I purchased these as a replacement for the factory cleat. They were easy to set up and look very similar to the original. It's a good thing I tried them on my trainer first. When I tried to unclip I could not. The amount of effort to release from the pedal was crazy. I adjusted my pedal to the loosest setting and It was still very hard to unclip. I ended up putting some chain lube on the contact points to make it easier.

Slick! But not in a good way.

Works with my Garmin Vector 2 pedals. Bought these on sale. BUT they are slick! Must have cleat covers to walk safely. Recommend you make sure to get cleats with some rubber grippers even if more $$.

Great float
- Familiarity:
- I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
I gave these as a gift and have feedback to share. He likes the all-around grey color as well as the float. This lets your legs/knees move more naturally and not stay locked in place. Very comfortable ride.

Great Cleat
The 4.5 in my opinion have the perfect amount of float. The cleats come with mounting hardware. Overall, a great durable cleat.

Best Keo Cleat
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
Didn't really love the Keo Grip cleats. These engage better but probably wear a little faster if you walk much so pick your poison.

Cheaper & better than Keo Grip
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
Sure, the Keo Grip make it easier to walk, but I prefer not to walk in road shoes in any case. The Grip section interferes with engagement and disengagement (in my opinion), whereas these just slip right in and out as needed, while holding your foot securely while pedaling. So save some money and buy these and a six-pack of your favorite microbrew instead ... and still have a buck or two leftover.

Perfect Cleat

I am not a fan of a cleat with no float. These cleats have just the right amount. You can't go wrong with them .

The cleat refresh is a good thing! I definitely like these better than the 'gripped' version.

Always a solid choice

I've tried many of the faulty attempts at copying this cleat as well as the grip. If you want the best performance don't waste your time with anything less.

No grip (thankfully!)
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
Since Look came out with their "grip" cleat, everyone has clamored to those; I much prefer these. The lack of rubber does make walking a bit more precarious, but I usually buy my cycling products for high performance on the bike, walking doesn't much enter my equation (I realize my priorities are not the same as everyone, or even a majority). The lack of rubber, on the bike, makes these cleats umpteen times easier to engage your cleats and pedals as there aren't any high friction surfaces to grab and stop your cleat from sliding into place. The same goes for exiting the pedals. While some may appreciate the ability to walk more easily on the Keo Grip cleat, the rubber also has a tendency to tear off pretty easily, rendering the cleats identical to these ones. The one issue (okay this is two) that these and Look pedals in general have in common is that they can develop a bit of play and not keep a solid contact with the pedals as they wear, which can then in turn cause a bit of noise, squeaking and creaking. Nevertheless, if you have Look pedals, these are ultimately my foremost recommendation.

some play, but a good alternative

Some people don't like the grippers, but these have a bit of play in them. They work well for a while but once they wear down; they're donefor.

Death Traps
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
Do they clip in and out well? Yes. But beware that walking in these things is downright scary. I look like an 80 year old man hobbling around in these, being careful not to fall and break a hip. I'll be buying the version with the grips. They do wear out quickly, but buying new clips is cheaper than surgery.

Good replacement for Keo Grip
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I replaced the keo grip cleats that I've used in the past with these regular keo cleats. As others of stated the keo grips get torn up really quickly and basically become these cleats with no nylon. Save money and get these, and covers if you really need the extra grip. I haven't had any issue walking on these so far.

Prefered

Love the teflon cleats over the grip cleats that come with look's now. The rubber on the grip cleats wear off quickly if you walk on them much and then your left with what you have hear something relatively slippery, but you dont have the teflon whre the cleat is engaged. the teflon seems to really help the cleat float as intended compared to my last set of grips which honestly felt like they had no float.

Work super
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
Been using the grey cleats for many years now - excellent! With daily rides and minimal on/off the bike stops, you can expect to get about 4 months out of these. Nice wear indicators. Replacements are inexpensive - at Competitive :) Only thing is that when you do get off your bike and its wet out, pretty slippery. If you ride where it's damp alot, or you frequent restrooms where people miss the urinal with their whiz, would recommend the Grip ones. Additionally, if you walk through dirt ( don't recommend) like on pit stops on a Century ride - makes these sound like a wounded duck....squeak squeak! Goes away after a few miles and makes lot's of friends :)

Good enough cleats.
The work well with my Scott cycling shoes, no complaints, easy to attach and easy to clip in to.

I agree. These are the only ones I've seen without the rubber. I'm returning mine.
