Description

Size matters.

There is no shame in liking a little extra padding around your bars. We've lost count of the number of pro bikes we've seen with double-wrapped bars, ready to tackle the spring classics. And for those who dislike wearing cycling gloves, a nicely padded handlebar is de rigueur. Lizard Skins DSP 2.5 Handlebar Tape offers the same super grip that the 1.8 variation does, but with the added comfort of 0.8mm more padding.

Now, 0.8mm might not sound like a lot, and indeed Lizard Skins is careful not to give it a foamy, slightly blundering feel. It's just a whisper of extra padding, but it could make the difference between numb hands and all day comfort. The DSP 2.5 Bar Tape shares the same high tech feel that their 1.8 tape has, but with a different design pattern. In fact, if you take a close look, it resembles a file tread pattern like you might see on an all-weather road tire. It has more texture than other tapes we've used, and that's not by accident. The tape is intended to facilitate the movement of your hands form one position to the other, but there is no hint of unwanted slip, even with ungloved hands.

Each roll of tape is 82 inches long, so you'll be able to wrap your bars without having to resort to overly pulling and stretching the tape. In fact, that is something that the folks at Lizard Skins are keen to caution you against doing. Be firm in pressing the tape into place and space it evenly, but don't pull at it too much because that will reduce its durability.

Lizard Skins DSP 2.5 Handlebar Tape comes in Black, Blue, Green, Orange, Red, and White. The package includes 2 rolls of tape, 2 bar-end plugs, and 2 finishing strips. Its claimed weight is only 50 grams per set, which means even weight-weenies can get the ultimate comfort without sacrificing a gram.

    Great Tape!

    Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Great tape that is extremely easy to work with and feels great. My first time taping my own bars and I read a bunch of reviews in various places and decided on Lizard skin. I'm not at all disappointed. I wish the tape came just a little bit longer but I think that's just because I'm a novice tech and as I get better wrapping the bars it won't come out short by about an inch on each side. But it looks and feels great and was very comfortable on the first ride. I used 2.5 mm and replaced the Fizik tape on the bars which was worn out I could tell the difference immediately.

    excellent bar tape

This tape is easy to apply. I wrap my bars with more overlap in the drops and less on top near the hoods. I great great grip and ample cushioning this way when low and decent control when high. I use it for a year or so and then opt for another color.

    Good feel

    Familiarity:
I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

The grip is good, and the feel is good. There is less fatigue with this product, and a natural feel.

Nice feel but backing adhesive sucks

    Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I've heard many positive reviews of this bar tape, so I decided to try it on my cyclocross bike. The feel is great for CX as it maintains grip even when wet. The backing adhesive, on the other hand, does not. On one rainy race I noticed that the tape had begun to unravel as water had penetrated the tape and negate the adhesive. That's never happened to me with any other tape! Then this week while riding in the Florida heat it happened again. No rain; this time it was sweat that had loosened up the bar tape to cause it to unravel! The instructions, which I followed, explicitly state to not stretch the bar tape tight while installing, so maybe that's the problem. Either way, unraveling bar tape is not acceptable. Never again.

Just like the 3.2mm tape this tape is comfy and grippy. If your looking to shave a little weight but not sacrifice performance look no further.

Grippy bar tape even when wet, perfect for riding with bare hands. 2.5mm thickness works great for reducing fatigue.

    Great bar tape!

I bought this in Celeste (to match my Bianchi Sempre) last year. I've ridden about 2,000 miles since then and the tape has performed marvelously. Will definitely be putting Lizard Skins tape back on when I replace this set!

    Great so far

    Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Got about 10 rides on the tape so far....first time I've tried it. The tacky grip is awesome and the black and white camo looks BA. If I can get a year and 8000 miles out of it, I'll give it 5 stars.

    Great when its new.

    Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I've had a few iterations of this bartape over the years. It would easily be a five star product if the surface material didn't wear off so easily. If you have the habit of twisting the bars while you ride, you may want to reconsider buying this product. However, I really like the fit and feel of this tape, so much so, that I continue to buy it even though I know it will wear significantly quicker than other tapes. The DSP tape really is great stuff, but its gonna wear quick. I generally get about a season of riding out of a set then its time for a re-wrap.

Don't worry, not real lizard skin.

    Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

The 2.5 thickness is great for less-than-perfect roads, without feeling bulky in my hands. The grip performs, even when wet.

    More colors

I love Lizard Skins and now I think the Camo is cool, how about Green, Brown, or Gold. Really adds style to boring handle bars.

    Its my go-to bar tape!

    Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I put this tape on all of my bikes, my road bike, CX bike, and my ole ladies road bike. Super cushy, grippy, and comfy. Helps eliminate road vibrations and less fatigue on the hands.

    Worst tape I ever bought

After 30 rides the bar tape started to show white spots. For a tape this expensive, I expected a lot more life from it. I like the feel of the tape, but that does not make up for such a short life. I emailed lizard skins twice to inform them of this problem, but both went unanswered. If this is how a company treats and feels about their customers......I'd rather move on and continue to support fizik which I've never had an issue with. Stay away at all costs, do not buy this tape.

    After

I too have had the spots appear and I have had the same lack of response to emails. It looks like the covering is separated from the backing material.

    Lizard Skinz 2.5 Bar Tape

    Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

White wear spots appearing after 6 weeks of riding. too bad as it feels great when new. Would not recommend buying. Use the new Fizik Enduro bar tape. Doesn't wear out like the Lizard Skinz.

Hey there! One thing you might want to try is picking up another set of this stuff and not stretching it at all when installing. I've installed countless sets on bikes of customers of mine, and if the tape is stretched, the layers separate and those white wear marks appear way sooner than they should.

    Comfort and Quality

    Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This bar tape is definitely my favorite. I have used it for a few years now and have been very satisfied with it. I prefer using the 2.5mm tape as it is just the right amount of cushioning for my preference. I would highly recommend this bar tape if you are looking for something new or if you have not yet tried it out!

    Nice feel, didn't last

    Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I put Lizard Skins on one of my bikes. Loved the feel so much I put it on the other one. Then, the first bike started showing significant wear on the right side, after about 9 months. I typically ride 3x per week, maybe 150 miles a week. Bike was not crashed or leaned on anything. Just worn out from riding. The second set of Lizard Skins also now shows significant wear in the same area. Vary disappointing for such an expensive tape. I won't be replacing with more Lizard Skin.
