Description

Tackle long rides with more comfort

Over the years, Lizard Skins has continually met the demands for something a little bit thicker. First it was with the 2.5mm bar tape and now it's the DSP 3.2mm Bar Tape. If you're like us, and you need to cushion the pain of cobbled streets and country roads, wrap your bars with a Roubaix-tested tape like the DSP 3.2mm.

We understand if you're concerned that 3.2mm of padding may put too much squish under your hands. We, and Vacansoleil-DCM, can assure you that it doesn't. Instead of creating a foam-like volume, Lizard Skins opted to add density. This gives your bars the feeling of comfort and normalcy -- not bulk. And believe us, while we love the high-volume, shellacked look of cork tape just as much as you, the durability and vibration-absorption make the DSP 3.2mm our obvious choice between the two.

In addition to more density, the DSP 3.2mm tape has been given a textured surface. The cross-crossed pattern resembles the tread of an all-weather road tire, and it provides a similar effect. Whether you're riding with or without gloves, or in wet or hot weather, your hands have more traction on the shoulders and drops with DSP 3.2mm.

Each roll of tape is 82 inches long. So, you'll be able to wrap your bars thick without having to over pull and stretch the tape. In fact, Lizard Skins is keen to caution you against doing just that. When applying, be firm in pressing the tape into place, spacing it evenly. And unless you want to decrease the durability for some odd reason, don't pull it too tightly in the wrap.

The Lizard Skins DSP 3.2mm Bar Tape is available in the colors Black, Blue, Grey, Red, and White. Each package includes two rolls of tape, two bar-end plugs, and two finishing strips.

  • Firm padding adds comfort, not bulk
  • Cross-hatched texture for increased grip in inclement conditions

Don't do it

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've put this tape on two bikes, 3.2 and 2.5 versions. It feels great but within couple of months the surface starts to wear through at pressure points. For the money this is unacceptable. Also end caps are poorly designed, especially for the thicker tape. I wound up trashing them and using an old Sram pair.

Had exactly the same experience. Less than a season in, and it starts to flake. Finally went with the Fizik 3mm and that holds up a lot better.

You'll Want This for All Your Bikes

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is some of the best tape I've found. It's thick and damps vibrations well so it's perfect on my gravel bike. It's been incredibly durable which makes it worth the extra cost and is very grippy, even when wet. I can't go back to other bar tape.

Extra Cushion for the Pushin

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I got this for my gravel bike where I needed a little my padding for rough gravel roads. I have been using Lizard Skins DSP bar tape since it first came out and have always loved the grip it provided especially since I tend to not ride with gloves. The only issue I have with it is you are not supposed to stretch the tape as you install it. If you are looking for a little more cushion on your road or gravel bike this would probably be the best choice.

Treat yourself!

Skimping out on bar tape and opting for the cheapest option is a big mistake! Your bars are a main contact point, spend some cash on good bar tape. The 3.2 version will give you extra comfort on those long rides. It did the trick on a six day bike packing trip in Colorado this summer. Highly recommended!

    Really Great Stuff

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Just for some context, I'm coming from some super cheap cork tape. I cannot believe I have been riding that cheap bar tape for years when I could've been riding this LS bar tape. It feels better without gloves than the cork bar tape did with gloves. Use some gel gloves with this 3.2 tape and you will feel hardly any vibration from the road. I still prefer riding with glove on longer rides, but on shorter rides, going gloveless feels amazing. Definitely would recommend!

    What cobbles?

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Just kidding, I don't really ride cobbles - but with this bar tape, my hands probably wouldn't notice even if I did. I forgot my gloves on a commute and everything was A-OK. Nice and squishy, good grip, and I like the bright green color quite a bit.

    Super Cushy

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This tape has nice grip and a great cush to it. Using on my commuter bike and definitely would recommend.

    Hand Pillows

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Cushy, tons of grip in all weather conditions, and great color options. What more to ask? Oh, no stretching on install.
    Definitely the best we carry.

    Great cushioning

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

"I've tried a bunch of different bar tape but this one is my favorite. Tacky, great grip and the cushioning is fantastic, especially on rough roads and gravel. I just wish they offered a plain dark grey color."

    Good bye hand pain

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have used Lizard Skins for the past few years and cannot find a reason to use bar tape from another company. The DSP series of tape is high quality and durable. The 3.2mm version is great for gravel bikes and bike packing set ups, or for riders that have hand pain on their drop bars.

    Most Durable/Comfortable Tape Avialable

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Perfect for road or cross this tape has kept rolling smooth longer than any other tape I've tried and install is a breeze. I've used this tape for several cross and road seasons, it holds up to crashes (CX) and is easy to clean.

    Great bar tape

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Excellent cushion and grip (regardless of weather condition). No need for gloves. Easy to clean up and looks new longer than cork.
    Can be difficult to apply.

    Great Padding for Long Rides!

After about 20 miles my feet, butt and hands start to get numb. When the hands go numb things can get dangerous. I use the 1.8mm tape on my cyclocross race bike and it's only a fraction softer than riding with no tape at all.

      Oh Yes

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Great shock absorbing properties for the pothole capitol of the world!
      Western PA.
First time I have ever used the supplied bar end wrap...and it stayed in place, no need for electrical tape. Have actually unwrapped to replace a cable, reapplied same tape and bar end wrap, again stayed in place, amazing!!

Michigan is the pothole capital of the world.

Sorry fellas, New York City is the capital of potholes, always was and always will be. There's only two crews working the potholes in the whole city.....lol

Reports show the East Coast does not come close to the potholes in California. http://thenewswheel.com/10-worst-pothole-cities-in-america/#LA
      1. Los Angeles, California
With approximately 64% of all roads in the city in poor and mediocre condition, the City of Flowers and Sunshine should really be renamed to the City of Potholes and Ruts. Predictably, Los Angeles tops our list of Worst Pothole Cities in America.

So there we have it. The top 10 cities you probably want to avoid if you don’t want to repair your car following a barrage of pothole encounters. Maybe our politicians should watch more John Oliver when it comes to pothole repair.

Lizard Skins- Bar Tape Install Video

A great video from Lizard Skins sight showing detailed instructions for bar tape installation.

      Love It!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I like gloves and padding; the more the better. I don't understand the concern for "control" (Do people go without Power Steering on their car so they can "feel the road"?). I bought the Lizard Skins 3.2mm in White and will repeat when the time comes. From the photos I saw, I was wondering if the "tread" would look ugly, but it looks really good, and stays reasonably clean because I keep my hands & gloves clean. The tack is perfect. Best of all, every tape I've ever used eventually slipped and gapped at the handlebar bends, but this stuff DOESN'T BUDGE!! Really great tape!

(Do people go without Power Steering on their car so they can "feel the road"?)

yes, that's exactly what they do. ask any racer driver.

      It's thick, no doubt there

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I hate gloves. I can't specifically say why, but they drive me crazy. This leaves me with a quandary when I ride the rougher back roads, chip fill county roads and occasional dirt with my bike. I could progressively go numb in my hands, or I could wear my gloves. Then I got this bar tape.

I had Cinelli cork before this and it lasted a total of around 900 miles before I wore a hole in it.

Then a buddy turned me on to the Lizard Skin tape. Holy cow, what a difference!

It's grippy, padded, and doesn't look out of place on the bike. Best of all, I can go glove free without the numbness.

I probably could have gotten away with the 2.5 wrap, but I figured I would try that next time and start with thicker now. I'm a fan so far.

      Better than double wrapping

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I tend to use the LS 2.5mm tape and tried to double tape once but it was just too big, this is the perfect thickness for people who don't like gloves or are riding on rough roads.

      Awesome cushioning!

My Cervelo R3 came with Fizik's Microtex which had no cushioning at all. I probably went to the opposite end of the scale with this tape but I love it! Great cushioning and with the herringbone texture it looks great and feels great too. Caution-if you have small hands or just don't like the feel of a fat bar-try one of the less cushioned tapes like their 2.5. Otherwise, I highly recommend.

        Awesome cushioning!

        Great tape

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This tape is awesome. I like it so much I'm buying my second set to put on my commuter bike.
