Press Release: the 2016 Competitive Cyclist Mountain Bike Team

Park City, Utah — Competitive Cyclist is excited to announce its continued partnership with Summit Bike Club, USA Cycling’s 2015 mountain bike Club of the Year. Summit Bike Club and Competitive Cyclist are committed to #growMTB through junior development in 2016 and beyond.

The Competitive Cyclist Mountain Bike Team’s 2016 roster will be managed by Summit Bike Club and include sixteen racers hailing from Utah, Colorado, and Texas. This select group of athletes are representatives of Summit Bike Club’s commitment to helping juniors achieve their goals.

“We strive to provide unique opportunities for our athletes to learn and grow as racers and members of the cycling community,” said MJ Turner, Summit Bike Club president. “Through these amazing riders, as well as the other 100 plus juniors who participate in our other programs, we are helping young athletes become lifelong cyclists.”

This year’s U23 portion of the roster consists of one woman and four men. Returning racers Mike Sampson and Matthew Turner are joined by Jacob Sacket and Zach Calton, both of whom raced last year in the Junior category for Summit Bike Club, as well as Sofia Gomez-Villafañe following her campaign at Cyclocross World Championships.

The junior roster reflects Summit Bike Club’s commitment to helping young men and women progress as racers and ambassadors for cycling. This year’s roster includes six women and five men. Returning team members Sienna Leger Redel, Rachel Anders, Matt Behrens, and Connor Patten are joined by Summit Bike Club alumni Lia Westermann, Annika Heilweil, Mila Leger Redel, Ellise Shuman, Cameron Larson, and Skylar Patten. The final member is new addition Nolan Jenkins, the defending 14 & Under National Champion.

The season’s calendar will see the team competing at Pro XCT races in the Western U.S., National Championships, and select endurance events, with racers setting their sights on World Cup and World Championship races later in the season.
