Z1 Helmet

Enhanced ventilation, a revamped retention system, and additional temporal protection are just a few of the features packed into Lazer's new top-shelf Z1 Helmet. No stranger to outfitting the best cyclists in the world with head protection, the Belgian manufacturer builds from the proven Helium and Genesis designs to deliver its lightest and best-fitting helmet to date.

First glance of the Z1 reveals a deeper shell structure along the temporal zone than that of the Helium, in what Lazer calls its T-Pro design. Standing for "temporal protection," T-Pro adds material around the temples, which then cuts away at the frontal zone to keep vision unobstructed. Constructing this area, along with the rest of the lid, is Lazer's proven RBS (Rigidity Brace System). Lazer likens it to a car's roll cage, in that during a crash the cracked EPS stays together to provide some additional protection.

In terms of ventilation, the Z1 has 31 strategically placed vents, allowing massive doses of cooling air to flow in the front of the helmet and over the head, before exiting out the back. Not surprisingly, this ventilation design contributes to the Z1's claimed 220 gram weight (size medium) which is a 40 gram savings over the Helium in the same size.

Lazer also spent time rethinking its retention system, which now adds even more adjustability for an ultra-precise fit. Called the ARS (Advanced Rollsys System) it features a top-mounted dial connected to a band that tightens symmetrically, evenly distributing pressure across the head. Furthering this is its "head basket" cradle at the back of the head, featuring five up and down positions for an optimal hold.

The Lazer Z1 Helmet is available in sizes Small to Large and in the colors Blue Silver, Flash Orange/blue, Matte Black, Vanilla Grey, White/red, and White/silver.

    True to size
    5` 10"
    165 lbs

Have been looking/ wanting to try one for sometime now. Suffice it to say that I'm not disappointed! Hands down the most comfortable helmet I've owned.

    Great helmet

    True to size

Perfect fit, great helmet. After all if it is good enough for Mathel Van Der Poel it should be good enough for me.

    >Rating: 5

    great helmet

I've put it through the wringer
    True to size

have been using this for the last 2 years, i love the fit of the helmet, the adjustment mechanism, and it has great air flow. i have used both specialized and giro; but this fit my head much better

    Heritage - Development - Innovation

An inside look at the heritage, development and innovation that can only be found from Lazer Sport!

Does this helmet have the same fit as the lazer o2? I like the shape of the lazer helmets but do not like the straps. Are the straps smaller / softer on the z1?

I returned a Z1 for this reason. I hate feeling choked by the strap. It is too short and not adjustable.

Is the "Flash Yellow" Lazer z1 color really more "Floro Green" than yellow? Looks more green than yellow on your site? Wondering if if matches my Tarmac stripe?

Hi Christian! Having owned the Flash yellow Z1, I can say it's really close to your Tarmac colors. Mine matched my other fluo-yellow stuff really nicely.

Does this helmet have an up/down adjustment similar to Giro, Kask, etc? Also, can you comment on the stiffness of the Rollsys dial? It looks as though it would feel loose. I'm just more familiar with the loud ratcheting of Giro adjustments.

Derek - it does have an up/down adjustment but it does not sit as low on the back of the head as a Giro/Kask helmet does (i've owned them as well). the Rollsys is actually pretty stable on mine, i may make minor adjustments before a ride, but have not had a problem with this during a ride, nothing different then the other helmets i have owned/tried.

When will you have the aero/ rain shell accessory?

We don't have plans to stock those but can special order them, Email me if you would like me to do that for you.

Is there a MIPS version of the Z1 coming?

Right now the only road option with MIPS is the Helium.

Do these fit similar in size to Giro...

Do these fit similar in size to Giro helmets? I currently wear Giro Atmos in medium. Bike shop said these typically run smaller than Giro, so I would most likely wear size Small in the Z1 (they didn't have the helmet in small or medium for me to try on). Can anyone shed some light on what size would be best? Comparing the size charts showed that they are about the same..... Thank you.

I recommend you measure your head's circumference in centimeters, and buy the appropriate size. My head is 57 cm, so I would wear a medium Giro (55-59 cm) but would need to wear a large Lazer (57-60 cm)

Y'know, a bit like the claimed weights sometimes being a little off the actual weights, I have found that the claimed size measurements can be a little off. The other thing is that it doesn't take into account head shape. If I were you, I'd find a store that sells them, try them on there so you know what size and brand fits you better, and then you can order online.

Trying them on in a store and then ordering online is a cheap tactic. Stores have money tied up in their stock. Instead of using the stores money to try helmets, you order the helmets you want to try online and pay the $6.95 return shipping to competitive cyclist.

Anyone know how Oakley Radar's fit on this...

Anyone know how Oakley Radar's fit on this helmet?

Hey Colo Jr. - Being somebody who wears Radars on almost all of my rides compatibility of them with helmets is very important to me. My coworker Trevor rides the Z1 and I had a chance to try it on. There is definitely plenty of space for your Radars and to fit comfortable. If you have any additional questions on fit or sizing let me know at Cheers! Sarah

I'd also like to know the sizing for the...

I'd also like to know the sizing for the Z1 and whether or not the helmet will come with the aeroshell like I've seen on some Euro websites selling these. -Thanks

S : 52-56 M : 56-59 L : 59-61 Courtesy of Lazer's Facebook page for others looking for the answer to this question. Still like to know about the aeroshell!

I didn't get an aeroshell with my helmet, but not sure if this is a mistake? It's an excellent helmet though!

I haven't seen any size charts specifically...

I haven't seen any size charts specifically for the z1. Do you guy's have the measurements and can you post the specific sizes for the z1.

I have tried on both the Z1 and other Lazer helmets. The Z1 fits LARGER than all their other helmets. Don't know why, but a medium Z1 is too big for me, while their Blade, O2, and a few others were fine in medium.
