Description

Why We Like The G1 MIPS Helmet

A redesigned fit system and improved ventilation, as well as a sleeker profile than previous models, make the G1 feel light as air while riding, with the protection we need on the road. Lazer’s Rollsys retention system provides a 360degree fit and comfort in a lightweight design that adjusts from the top of the helmet, placing it out of the way of caps or ponytails. The 22 vents pull air through the helmet’s shell to both ventilate and cool as well as improve aerodynamics for every advantage on race day. For added peace of mind, a MIPS layer in the G1 redirects rotational forces in the event of an impact.

  • Superlight road helmet with MIPS protection
  • Advanced Rollsys system adjusts for 360degree comfort
  • Compatible with Lazer’s Aeroshell for aerodynamic and weather advantage
  • 22 vents enhance cooling by pulling air through helmet
  • Includes race and comfort pad options to suit your preference

I just came to this helmet from a Bell Z20 and it has been amazing. The Bell Z20 is a great helmet and I would recommend it to anyone but the Lazer G1 has it beat in almost every way. It is very light, and the retention system that they use allows you to really fine-tune your fit! It has honestly been a helmet I forget about when I am riding. I had long hair when I started using this helmet, and it was one of the few helmets that didn't get my hair caught up in the MIPS system. I would recommend this helmet to everyone! You wont be disappointed with it!

I had to give the G1 a try after reading all the glowing reviews and it really does live up to the hype. As someone with a larger head, it can be tough to find helmet shapes that don't give you the "mushroom look." The G1 maintains a low profile while still providing adequate protection. The Rollsys system offers incremental tension without getting tangled in your hair - another plus! Great helmet from Lazer. Looking forward to many rides with it.

This is my favorite helmet right now! It's comfortable and lightweight. I really like the top adjustment feature. My hair doesn't get snagged in it when adjusting on my head. Plus, the Matte Green is soooo pretty. I've had several compliments already!

One of the Best

This is one of the best helmets out there! It's super light weight and I love the profile. I have a large head and this helmet doesn't give me that "mushroom" look while wearing it. Not only does it look great, it's functional and keeps your melon safe! FYI...(Very Important)...I have read reviews about this helmet from customers that complained about the fit/feel of this helmet because it doesn't synch or feel snug enough no matter how much you adjust the wheel. The same thing happened to me when I first got this. Here's the deal... I did some research and found out that there's another adjustment strap underneath the MIPS shell that you can adjust. I found out that this strap's adjustment varies from the factory and you can adjust it to where it will work for your head. You have to flex back the MIPS shell and loosen up a small phillips screw in order to adjust the strap. My helmet started working great after I did this. I just wanted to put this warning out there. I was discouraged when I first got this helmet but I didn't want to give up. I really wanted to enjoy this helmet. Overall, it's an excellent piece of equipment! Ride Safe!

I’ve been super happy with this helmet! The first thing I noticed was how light and breathable the helmet is. It is definitely made to be a race helmet, and so those are two features that are super nice about it! Usually, when people see a helmet that is super lightweight, they question how safe that helmet is. But this helmet has been given a 5 star rating from the Virginia Tech Safety ratings, so you’re getting light, breathable, and safe, all at the same time! I’ve also loved having the Rollsys Retention System that Lazer equips on their G1 Helmets. This system makes it so that you’re getting a 360 degree fit, which makes it so that you’re not feeling too much pressure anywhere on your head. This has made for a super comfortable fit, and it makes it super awesome for long rides in the saddle! Overall, the Lazer G1 MIPS Helmet is light, safe, aerodynamic, comfortable, and also aesthetically pleasing. I’ve been super happy with it, and I’m stoked for future rides with it!

I had a major crash a few months after purchasing this helmet doing a solo training ride. I was knocked unconscious for 16 minutes, broke 7 bones (6 ribs and my right clavicle), had gashes taken out of my face, knees, elbows, etc. Outside of being unconscious from the initial impact (I went over the handle bars head first) I exhibited no signs of a concussion. That is extraordinary and I'm so thankful I had this helmet on when I crashed.

I have been riding with this helmet for a month. Thus far I have found it to be the most uncomfortable helmet I have ever owned. As others note, the pads are not great at absorbing sweat. I can confirm this. In fact they are ineffective to the point of almost being useless. The helmet is also pretty uncomfortable. The plastic Mips lining on the top of the inside of the helmet is not friendly to hairless heads. I am not sure if the plastic liner that makes up the head basket is the reason why it gets so warm when out for a ride. It is also claimed the fit system has no pressure points and you can ride all day wearing it. I disagree. The description of the helmet notes is has an 8% increased air flow over the head versus wearing no helmet at all. I cannot confirm this, but when comparing it to my previous helmet, a Giro Aether Mips, it is a step-down in all-around comfort. Hopefully, if ever needed, the five-star crash protection will outweigh the riding experience. If you can, try before you buy!

No mushroom effect (which is big) and it is very light. As others have mentioned, the pads don't do a great job of absorbing moisture, but it's ok. Initially, I was concerned about the retention system and adjustment mechanism, but after 4-5 rides I've reconsidered and like it: its just more subtle to manipulate, but holds just fine. (We'll see over time). I give it five stars because of the no mushroom effect and very subjective style consideration. I understand it also has the highest impact rating according the some work done by Virginia Tech on helmet performance (can find online): hope I don't have to find out. Good luck

Super light helmet. Wore it for a century a week out of the box and nearly forgot it was there by the end of the day. Not the best at absorbing sweat but no helmet really is if I'm being extra picky. Would definitely recommend. Plus it's #1 on VT ratings.

Love the new G1. I've only used a couple times but am pleased with both fit and looks. The weight while holding and wearing is impressively light. Sizing was my only issue. My pre Shimano Genesis was a medium, but the cm range was different. I am a 56cm which fell in the middle of the old 52/58 range while new med is 55/59. The medium fit but still had the mushroom look and it was noticeably larger than old Genesis. Manufacturer suggests if between sizes, size down. They were spot on and I have the low profile helmet I was looking for. Still have enough room for my cool weather headwear even though I'm now wearing a size small. Haven't had an issue with helmet tilting back and rolley's system works well for me. I like the helmet coverage and the minimal G1 profile. Chin strap is thin and soft but could be a little longer.

I am also exactly 56cm.....so you feel like the small fit you well? I currently have the orange one in a Medium, and I guess it fits ok....but I definitely notice movement, especially on the MTB. I was considering getting a SM to try, but figured it would be too small.

This is my current daily helmet and I'm mostly happy with it. It's lightweight and feels good on my head. My head circumference is 57cm and the medium fits perfectly. The retention system works fine and is easy to adjust while riding. The straps are thin and lay mostly flat on along my head. My biggest gripe about this helmet is that the sweat pads along the forehead area are good for only the smallest amount of perspiration. On a big climb when the sun is out I am seeing and feeling the sweat drip from the inner edge of the helmet above my brow and right into my sunglasses or directly into my eyes. I have to wear a cycling cap or a thin headband, but then my head gets kind of too hot.

Lol had the same experience with mine. Are we being to demanding? Have to see longer term.

I've used Giro helmets exclusively. I've always had trouble with the lock systems breaking after a few months. As stated everywhere, the helmet is very light and has great airflow. The retention takes some getting used to, it is not skull crushingly tight. That's a plus on long rides. I wear cycling caps and the fit is just as good with them on. I have a roundish bald head and was able to dial is a great fit.. Personally, I'm not concerned about the lack of glasses storage, they should be protecting your eyes not perched for style points. I deducted a star for some imperfect trimming and finish flaws. At this pricepoint, it should be near perfect. For those who do not find it fitting out of the box, lift the plastic piece with the serial number decal on it. There is a 5 level adjustment there. See my pic.

OMG you've just solve my fit problem! How is one supposed to know about that hidden slide? The thing fits perfect now - 6 months later!

I've been wearing this helmet for over a month now and really love this helmet. Previous helmets owned include the Specialized Prevail II and the Kask Protone. The sizing on this helmet seems to be the same as the Specialized Prevail II and the fit around the skull is closer to the Protone; making it the best of both worlds for my head shape. I found the Prevail II to be tight front to back and the Protone to hug my skull well. But I couldn't fit cycling caps or head warmers under my Protone M and could under my Prevail II M. This helmet fits all the caps or warmers I need and still fits great with no additional headwear at all. I love how you can forget it's on your head due to how light it is and that fact it has the Virginia Tech 5 Star helmet safety rating. I got the purple to match my violet Chris King bits and pieces on my Moots. I love the iridescence of the purple color too; subtle but flashy.

I really like this helmet. It is very light and has great ventilation for SE Texas weather. I agree with others that the retention system is a little weird and the MIPS system liner doesn't allow it to "feel" like a good fit using the retention system. But i will say that making sure the chin strap and the internal shell adjustment (the one that for lack of a better way of saying it rolls the helmet forward or back relative to MIPs liner) i was able to get a snug fit. That fit was put to the test when I was involved in a high speed crit wreck and the helmet did its job. This will be my second purchase of this helmet.

I'm usually on the edge of a medium or large. The medium fits perfect. I've got a month and 600miles in this helmet. I forget it's on. Very light. The fit system adjusts best off your head. It works fine for small adjustments while on. Big ones not so. I love the tight profile. It doesn't look huge on your melon. The mips is integrated well. I've not done a hot ride in it yet but judging by the airflow, it should cool well. I've ridden almost every major helmet brand and this is a great helmet.

i keep things for a LONG time, even repairing 20+ y/o capilene or replacing my locally made Moonstone goretex jacket after more yrs w an arc'teryx alpha sv. So, yes this is spendy. I came to this both as highest rated and light. I cldnt figure out the knurl on top immediately until i watched what it did when off my head. after i found out how it cynches up i found the way it gently hugs yr head all the way around to be like a dream. i also bought the correct aeroshell to clip over. i expect to be using this gorgeous helmet for at least a decade.

I had researched this purchase for a good year or more looking for the best non mushroom helmet for my big noggin. It did have a low profile, tighter fit, which was good. However I have to confirm what another reviewer wrote. The tightening fit mechanism didn't work for me. I couldn't get it to fit as snug as the standard wire systems. Also, the space above my ear to the bottom of the helmet was excessively large leaving a huge gap in protection. Maybe it was just my noggin, but I'm pretty sure I read a similar review that mentioned the same issue.

Can't beat the weight and ventilation on this helmet but the fit and styling suffer in my view. My Smith and POC look and fit better, but are both hot for LA riding. This Lazer has a minimalist profile that looks a little funky on my head, but it is certainly the coolest and lightest helmet I've ever owned. Everything else will feel heavy once you wear this thing.

After seeing these on the road and hearing positive comments I went with the G1 MIPS when it was time to repalce my 10 year old Spesh road helmet. Unfortunately none of my glasses will stash in the vents and the retention dial on top (or whatever it is called) is a major downgrade from the dial in the back of every other helmet I have had (road or mtb) the past fifteen years. I can never seem to get it to really snug up and turning the dial repeatedly makes very little change in adjustment. I guess if I had a ponytail or something having the dial on top would make sense but at least it should function. Chalk up one win in the looks department, provided you haven't tried to stash your Oakley's and have them protruding awkwardly from the vents, cantilevered out but just out of sight.

G1 has a head basket featuring vertical adjustment which ships in the box in the highest position. Pulling the head basket down applies additional hold on the base of the skull which should give you that “hold” you’re seeking.
