MXZ304 Wide Mountain Bike Shoe

As a dedicated winter rider who pedals up frozen streams and across snowy singletrack, you know how important it is to have warm footwear that protects your feet from the elements. Lake was one of the first companies to make a dedicated winter cycling boot, and the new MXZ304 is their best one yet. A larger BOA dial is moved to the front of the tongue, making it easier to use with winter gloves and providing a more even tension across the top of your foot. Otherwise the construction remains similar the previous model, consisting of highly weather-resistant Pittards leather that molds to the shape of your foot for optimal comfort, and a heavy-duty Vibram outsole that provides maximum traction both on and off the bike. Plus, they're filled with lightweight Thinsulate insulation, keeping your toes warm when you're out in the snowy woods for hours at a time.

Awesome Boot

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:
46

I've been using the Lake boot for 4-5 years. Having Reynaud's makes it a requirement. I wear a size 44.5 EU in my regular bike shoe and went to 45 for my present boot of 5 years. That was a bit tight so i gambled and went up to a 46 and it was perfect. This is a great boot and I expect that it will last me another 5 years, or longer.

Saved my ability to ride in the winter

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

My extremities run cold normally - hands and feet - which has always had a negative impact on my ability to enjoy winter sports in CO. I would still partake, but I would be miserable half the time because of the cold. These Lake shoes have changed that to a level I never thought possible. Yes, I still wear two pairs of socks, but my feet now stay warm the entire time I ride. Rode for 3 hours the other night in 20 degree temps and my feet could've gone another 3 hours if my legs weren't dead. If you struggle with cold feet and need a solution, I highly recommend these bad boys. They are comfortable, warm & dry, easy to get on/off, and the Boa system allows me to tighten/loosen them for a perfect fit. Definitely order one size up so you can wear thick socks and still move your toes around.

NOT for wet conditions

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Rode in F 33/34° snowy weather. Snow melted and roads were wet. Shoe started soaking through about 20 minutes and feet wet after an hour. The tongue is NOT gusseted; ONLY attached/sewn at base. Water leaked through under flap, around the tongue. Deeply disappointed- have no idea why tongue would not be gusseted. Boots soaked through on a second ride with snow and wet roads at 30 ° F. Had bibs OVER boot top to keep water from running down legs into boots. Warm in 27° F and dry conditions. Have ordered another pair of boots for cold AND wet conditions.

Awesome boots

Familiarity:

I love these boots. Super comfortable, easy to get it with Boa system. I rode in sub zero temps and my feet stay warm. Most definitely recommend them. Since they run true to size, I bought a size up to wear with heavy socks

Worth the money

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
45

I have been riding in the winter for a couple of years now. I have used shoe covers and/or toe covers for my road shoes. They are okay for me down to about 40 degrees. However, below that, it would get a little cold even with using electrical tape to cover cooling vents and chemical warmers. A friend told me an older model of these boots "transformed" his winter riding experience. I bought these new ones, and completely agree. I can use them even as warm as the 40s and be super comfortable. I bought a half size up and got the wide version for my wide feet (my other shoes are not available in wide). I am not a fan of the flap that covers the boa laces in terms of getting in and out of the boots, but it probably helps with keeping out the wind and snow. The boots look large, but are surprisingly light-weight. Feels like maybe 1.5 times the weight of my PEARL iZUMi X-Project P.R.O. shoes, which are very light mtb shoes. The minimal added weight is completely worth it unless maybe if you are in an actual race.
