MX241 Endurance Cycling Shoe

So you've discovered that your taste in off-road riding borders on all-day epics over rugged terrain. Good news, the Men's MX241 Endurance Cycling Shoe from Lake is specifically designed to give you comfort and efficiency in the backcountry with impressively durable elements that can handle the abuse with aplomb. Lake wanted to meet the needs of cross-country riders competing in endurance events, that value an efficient comfortable shoe and cannot afford to have issues with their footwear during an event and demand long life from their footwear.

The MX241 Endurance Cycling Shoe is built on Lake's MX Competition last, which has an impressive hold on the heel to prevent any slippage while trying to keep a smooth pedal stroke when negotiating steep, ledgy climbs. A wider toe box gives your feet some much-needed real estate as they will inevitably swell after many hours in hot and humid trail conditions. Anyone who has experienced hotspots and generally uncomfortable feet by subjecting them to carbon planks with off-road lugs, and yearns for a more comfortable shoe with virtually the same efficiency should check these out.

The other features are what you would come to expect from a quality off-road shoe. A full grain leather upper wraps your feet with a supple feel and the reinforced anti-abrasion panels help out in areas where you're most likely to scuff the shoes. This supple leather upper is cinched down with dual Boa IP1 dials allowing for a micro-adjustable fit while tightening and loosening. The full carbon sole provides efficient power transfer through the pedals and the grippy rubber lugs dig in for traction as your calves burn while the eyes look for the end point of the hike-a-bike.
  • Comfortable, efficient shoe built for off-road abuse
  • Abrasion-resistant elements add durability
  • MX Competition last is snug in the heel, wider in the toebox
  • Dual Boa IP1 dials provide secure, micro-adjustable fit
  • Full grain leather upper is supple and mold to the foot
  • Stiff carbon fiber sole maximizes power transfer
  • Rubber lugs add grippy traction while off the bike

My New Favorite Shoes

I've used it several times
True to size

After using the CX241 road shoes for a year and being extremely happy with them, I decided it was time to get the matching MX241 for off-road use. I recommend that you read my detailed review of the CX241 (https://www.competitivecyclist.com/lake-cx-241-road-shoe), but here are the highlights. These fit wide feet really well and you may not even need the Wide size - use Lake's online fit guide to measure your feet and compare it to the shoe measurements - it works! They're comfortable right out of the box and what little break-in is required only takes a few rides. They're well-ventilated, but when you put covers over them, they trap heat better than most shoes, making them a great choice for 3-4 season riding. They also accommodate varying sock thicknesses well. The rubber on the soles is grippier than on other shoes I've owned, providing a more sure-footed feeling on rocky surfaces. Molding the heel cups is easy and very effective. Overall, these are just really well-designed and constructed shoes.

Fit is just as described. Roomier in the toebox than my old Mavic’s. Been on some longish rides and no hotspots, rubbing, or numbness. A solid product. I’ve been a Sidi guy on the road for almost 20 years. I’m thinking of buying a pair of Lake’s after wearing these on the gravel rig for the last month! Buy em. You’ll thank me.

I've now ridden both XC singletrack and long days of groad and mud with these shoes, and absolutely love them. These are the first shoes I've had that are comfortable for 8-10 hours of riding. Points to love: 1. Double boa closure makes for easy fit adjustments while riding 2. Stiff sole has awesome power transfer 3. Molded/custom fit heel; first time I've done extended hike-a-bike sections without getting heel blisters, even with the stiff sole 4. Toe box is roomy enough for my duck feet on hot days without being sloppy 5. Ventilation is fantastic; after a 9-hour day in 85+ degree temps, I didn't have a single hot spot. One additional note: I measured according to the Lake size chart which recommended a full size larger than my norm, and then sent the first pair back as they were too big. I ended up with my regular size. I was worried that there wasn't a woman's model available, but the men's shoe fits beautifully.

These are great and comfortable for long rides. I like the Boa and they tighten and loosen by turning either direction. This is nice for all day comfort as you can quickly adjust fit throughout the day. The toe box is ample but not too wide. Finally, the materials seem to be really nice and they seem well made. Nice rubber soles with a stiff carbon shank.
