I bought these to use with my road bike riding as I am getting tired of walking in road bike shoes! I am getting older, my balance in walking with road bike shoes is getting worse!! First time out we did a 45 mile ride....the first 10 miles I was just getting used to the different cleats, not really concentrating on the shoe itself........then I realized how comfortable the shoes are! Walking in to a convenience store was like walking in the most comfortable street shoes I own! I also need the extra with because of bunions and these fit the bill. My road shoes are also Lake's with Boa's......they are super for adjusting and having plenty of room to get the shoes on & off easily! I also have a mountain bike where I can use the same shoe for either bike! You won't be disappointed in having this shoe!

I use these on a road bike not a mountain bike. These are the best shoes that I have ever used. I have been riding with cycling shoes for over 45 years and tried various brands to get a good fit. I used the sizing instructions from Lake to size the shoes and sized up on width and length, because many reviews stated that they run small and I expect that my feet will swell while riding long distances. I am not sure that these shoes run small, I ordered a half size longer and the wide fit (because I have 4E feet) but I have some wiggle room in the toe box. The carbon fiber soles are very stiff and comfortable. In the heel cup, there is some rougher textured material that appears to assist in keeping the heel in place and reduce wear at that location. On the outsides of the shoes, on the sides of the heels, there is some tougher material over the leather, this is in the perfect position to prevent scuffing of the leather from striking the chain stays. The front edge of the toe box has a tough rubber edge. The bottom of the shoes have a very good rubber soles that are designed to have the cleat recessed by 1 mm. The Boa lacing system is simple to use and works great, in fact it works so well that I am looking for regular athletic shoes that use the boa system. The only potential problem may be that the outer material is leather, I like the feel of the leather but on a long touring trip with days in the rain or wet weather, I am not sure how these will handle being soaked. I have used these on a 40 mile ride right out of the box and they are comfortable and felt great. No hot spots. No flexing of the sole. I have ridden them in 90+ temps and they didn't feel hot. After a month of using them daily averaging 40 miles a day with long rides of 75 miles, they are still great. I am now a Lake shoe convert. I will need to get a pair of their other shoes for touring where there may be some wet weather.

Love them, once i got the right size

So let’s start by saying that my feet are a little different from each other. My left foot is longer and slightly less wide than my shorter right foot, having said that, they are within 2-3 mm in length and more like 1-1.5 mm in width difference. Using the sizing chart from Lake (CC uses an edited version on their website, suitable for the Lake models they carry), i came to a 44.5 wide. This included the 5mm Lake stated to-add to actual foot lengths to arise at a proper Size determination. CC delivered quickly as they always do, but unfortunately the sizing was a bit off and too snug, length wise, on my left foot. So they were returned and i opted for the 45.0 wide from Lake (CC was out of stock). Two rides in, totaling 75 miles and these things are awesome fitting. They replaced some Shimano mx-7’s that were just too hot for me. Bonus points to Lake as i eyeballed the cleat placement initially and tightened them down. stuck a multitool in my jersey pocket for the inevitable “on the ride” adjustment, but haven’t had to adjust at all thus far. These shoes look great, feel even better and are much more vented than the ones they replaced. One small critique to Lake is that the vent hole in the sole on the left shoe was not removed, as it was on the right shoe. I tried a pin and a knife to “stab” at the piece and to lift it out, just doesn’t appear to be fully cut through, so left it as is. This is on the inside of the shoe, up on the forefront, just “below” the point where the toes join the foot. No issues with Competitive Cyclist before, or after the sale.

I wear a 7. 5e in most dress shoes , measured my feet according to lakes sizing recommendations. A 40.5 should have been perfect, toes felt scrunched with swiftwick socks and the heels slip when trying to walk.
