Description

Wide feet, happy trails.

If you’re the kind of trail rider whose feet are just about as wide as the singletrack you're on, then Lake's Wide MX237 Mountain Bike Shoes for men may be the key to a more accommodating fit and less metatarsal pain. In addition to the extra width — about 15mm, depending on size — a host of other features make them far more comfortable than their race-bred heritage might lead you to believe.

Sure, Lake’s extensive experience helps it to channel every last watt to your pedals, but the dual Boa closure gives you tons of fine tuning, and the full grain leather upper breaks in like your favorite leather slippers. Granted, you probably won’t want to wear them around the house, but when you’re dropping the hammer, they’re a much better option.

The key to the MX237s' power transfer lies in Lake’s Competition last. Like the moldable CFC last used in the MX331, the Competition last is designed to focus your power output into the ball of your foot, and straight through to the pedal. And while efficiency is key, there’s added room in the toe box to allow for foot expansion under hard efforts. And it all rests on Lake’s stiff Race carbon fiber sole. The result is a comfortable fit, packaged in a highly efficient shoe.

The dual Boa closure has been quickly adopted by the professional ranks due to the fact that it offers easy fine-tuning, and it stays tight throughout your entire ride. And since you’re able to independently adjust tension on the forefoot and the heel, you can lock down your heel, without having to over-tighten the rest of the shoe. And as you probably know, that means better bloodflow and greater comfort. The Boa closure runs underneath the full grain leather upper, enhanced with mesh panels to maximize foot-cooling airflow.

  • Wide trail shoe alleviates discomfort for big-footed riders
  • Race carbon fiber sole is super-stiff for maximum efficiency
  • Grippy rubber lugs for non-slip traction on slippery trails
  • Full grain leather upper molds to the shape of your foot
  • Dual Boa closure independently tightens mid-foot and heel
  • Competition last directs power to the ball of your foot

Best Shoe So Far

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I haven’t ridden them long enough to make a final decision, but they work for me. Everyone is different. When my Sidi Mega shoes wore out after 15 years, I replaced them with a well known "wide" brand, which was okay for a year. A couple months ago I began experiencing foot pain. My rides became excruciating after 15 miles. So I bought another name brand top of the line wide MTB shoe that felt good at first, but was hurting on the first 50 mile ride. I haven't worn them since. Then I found these Lake MX 237 Wide MTB cycling shoes. So far, I’ve worn them on several 45 mile rides with no pain at all. They are by far the widest & most comfortable cycling shoe I’ve ever worn. The way they lace up, I can go with thin or thick socks- they're adjustable. The stock foot beds are pretty good. I've switched between my orthotics and the Lake insoles and can hardly tell the difference. I can't tell you how they fit, since they feel better than anything else on the market whether I use thick or thin socks. I recommend the "Fit Guide" on the Lake website, then wear them around the house for several days before mounting the cleats.

Finally a shoe that fits

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

My feet are a little wide and I have always struggled to find shoes that were wide enough without being much longer than I need. Lake is one of a very few brands that delivers on the promise. I have ridden the shoes almost every day over the past 3 months for commutes and exercise rides in a good range of temperatures (Utah summer to Dutch fall) and have been very happy with one small caveat; the shoe is wide but the two box is not particularly large so my toenail can rub on the roof of the shoe. Fortunately, the shoe is leather in this area so it has broken in with time and I am finding a comfortable fit. I assume I can get the shoe stretched if the problem persists.
Other notable features include a nice, stiff sole but soft and rounded tread so that walking is acceptable while cycling efficiency is excellent. This is probably the 4th shoe like this I have had, all SPD with the idea of a commuting shoe that also worked on longer rides. The Lake is the best compromise I have found so far.
Size is something that I had to experiment with by purchasing three different sizes and keeping the best. Backcountry makes this option easy.

Happy Feet at last.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 45.5 wide

I'm a long time cyclist with wide feet. I've tried many many shoes over the years and I've worn custom road shoes for the last 10 years. My custom shoes were wearing out and weren't ever as comfortable as I had hoped. I tried the Lake MX237 and I love them. Most wide sized cycling shoes aren't actually very wide. The Lakes are fit me and allow my feet some space where I need it. The Boa's work well and are easy to adjust. I substituted Specialized insoles for a little more support. I'm now wearing my MX237's on my road bike too with XTR pedals. The shoes fell like they are very well made with high quality materials. I am very happy with these shoes.

The bomb!!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

My wide irregular feet have been cramped up inside some specialized shoes for a couple of years. They felt like they were in a vice. The first time that I put these shoes on my feet, they felt better than my casual work shoes. I normally wear a 12 wide and ordered a 47 in this shoe .I have worn these three or four times now and look forward to putting them on each time.

Good MTB Shoes

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

The person I bought these for has really wide feet, but these fit nice so his feet don't hurt while riding.

I wanted to like it...

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 45.5

I really wanted to like this shoe. Fit great, full leather, loved the clips but... It was so hot after the first ride I took them back. Very little ventilation and felt my old cheapo's were much better ventilation wise.
