MX145-X Wide Cycling Shoe
Cold, wet feet can take the fun out of a ride in a hurry, especially if you're way out in the woods with miles of snow between you and home. Lake has you covered especially if your shoes run on the wider side of things. It started with the MXZ303 winter biking boot, but honestly, it's overkill for most of us unless you're doing some very serious, very cold snow biking. For most of us, the MX145-X Cycling Shoe - Wide will do very nicely.
The MX145 starts with the MX Sport Last featuring a larger, roomier toe-box than its Comfort last, providing increased foot control through the heel and forefoot. Its resulting fit is designed for aggressive riding while retaining all-day comfort. Ideal for commuting, bikepacking, and mountain bikes who are in cycling shoes for long periods of time. Combined with the Hypergrip Enduro Sole with Ice Lock anti-slip lug inserts, the shoes have the stiffness to put power to the pedals and offer loads of traction off the bike as well. The uppers are a highly water-resistant waxed canvas and leather, and Lake employs a waterproof membrane to seal out the elements.
The dual IP1 Boa closures have been quickly adopted by the professional ranks due to the fact that it offers easy fine-tuning, and it stays tight throughout your entire ride. And since you're able to independently adjust the tension on the forefoot and the heel, you can lock down your heel, without having to over-tighten the rest of the shoe. And as you probably know, that means better blood flow and greater comfort.
- A warm, rugged cycling shoe for winter adventures
- Wider version for girthier feet
- The upper utilizes highly water resistant materials
- Dual Side mounted Push/Pull BOA IP1 lets you easily dial in the fit
- Hypergrip Enduro Sole with Ice Lock anti-slip lug inserts improves grip off the bike

I already own a pair of Lake MX-241 wide and hoped for something comparable in a winter boot. Although I ordered a size up from my regular EU41 in the MX-145, following reviewer comments, size 42 was uncomfortably narrow in the toe box even while wearing thin socks. The shoe volume is also too small to accommodate winter socks. I'll give the MX-146 a try in size 43 (two sizes above normal for me) when it is available.

Just did my first ride. I really like the boa closures. I needed to keep the bottom one loose since the shoe is really not wide despite the description. To release the laces on the boot, pull the boa connectors up. Push them back down and wind them to tighten. You wind the left and right boots in opposite directions to tighten. Plenty of clearance and easy to snap in and out with my SPD pedals and cleats. Kept my feet warm at temps just around freezing so fine for me and beats having shoe covers (which is why I bought them). I wear a 43 Mega for Sidi bike shoes and a New Balance 9EE for sneakers for reference. The box says 43 or size 10 US. They are not. The length is a size 9 as it says in chart above and my right foot was a little too tight with a medium sock even with the laces loose. I wasn't uncomfortable and I am sure they will wear in over a few rides. Just note, if you have a really wide foot, these do run narrow for a wide shoe.

My first ride on the Lake MX145-Wide was in 28-35 degree weather with normal weight socks, and my feet were perfect the entire two hour ride. I normally wear the Shimano S-phyre in 45 Wide, and they're a touch too long for me, but more than enough wide in the two box. I purchased the Lake's in 45 Wide, and they are definitely a shorter foot bed and a hair more narrow, but that worked for me because i should probably be a 44.5 W in the Shimano (if they made that size). So I'd say these are at least a half size smaller than their stated size. I plan to ride all winter, so I will report back to give a sense of their ideal temperature range.

I’m sure these boots are great, but they run small, both in length and width, compared to my other Lake MX 241 wides. Will have to size up a full size.

I commute on a bicycle about 200 days/year in western NY. If you do the math, I miss maybe 30-40 days in the winter. For a couple years I tried the shoe cover thing. None are fully waterproof and I always ended up with cold wet feet if it was raining hard. These shoes made those 33° with pouring rain rides no big deal. I’ve used these shoes down to 15°F with thick socks and my toes still have feeling after the 10 mile ride to work. I’ve also worn them when temps were as high as 60° and they are still comfortable. Of course water can still get in them if it drips down your leg. Sizing was spot on using the lake sizing guide. I’ve used these for 3-hour rides with no problems. If you ride in the wet and the cold, just buy them.

This is my first experience with Lake. And so far, I love them. Being a size 13.5 wide, finding a well fitting shoe is tough. I have yet to try them in sub freezing temps. But at 35 deg F, my feet stay comfortable. Excellent quality. I love everything about these shoes. Just wish they had some brighter colors. But I’ll take function over looks, any day.

I ordered two of these in sizes 40 and 41. The 40 was too narrow in front but gapped in the back, but the 41 fit well. On the 41s, one heel seam on one shoe put pressure on my heel. I didn't know if that would become a problem over time and didn't want to take the chance. Also, the narrow v-shape space between the leather on the top outside wanted to crease. Maybe it's supposed to, but I thought that might be a problem. I should say that I'm a 5'4"" female, which could affect these two issues. I did really like the boas, heel pull, the material in general. I wear a 40.5 in Sidi shoes.

after dealing with cold feet for so long I decided to finally get some good shows.after some on line help with sizes.these fit perfectly. the BOA has worked really well with gloves on. a few rides in the low 20's I would get a cold toe but once I got going my feet stayed nice and warm and dry! I still spray and wear a good winter sock. its nice to get back without frozen toes! cant believe I waited so long to get these!

What is the temperature comfort range for these shoes?

Hi Kenny, Lake doesn't give temperatures as everyone's comfort range is different but generally I'd recommend these for temps between the mid-50s and mid 20s.
