Why We Like The CX238 Wide Cycling Shoe

Lake evolves the CX237 to the new CX238 with updates to improve the longevity and performance of this long-time favorite road racing shoe in a wide model that is 15mm wider than the standard. The Competition last is shaped for better fit and comfort during hard efforts, with a slimmer heel and wider forefoot to allow for foot expansion under pressure. Supporting it all is Lake’s Race carbon fiber sole, providing the stiffness we need for better power transfer and durability. A panel at the heel and a rubber bumper at the toe protect from prematurely wearing out the full-grain leather upper, which has mesh panels and venting to improve cooling.

Very Comfortable

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
48 wide
Height:
5' 11"
Weight:
195

By far the most comfortable cycling shoes I’ve had. I’m normally a size 13 US wide or extra which is usually a 47 EU, but ended up with size 48 EU with this shoe. I have a wide foot but also oddly shaped where I experience pressure along the outside of the big toe pushing up against the toe box. With these shoes that does not happen. I cycle in hot humid conditions in FL with no issues. These are my first shoes with double BOA and really like the flexibility they provide for tightening. Will be getting a second pair and hope Lake keeps making these and adding different color options.

Wide heel did not work for me

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Got a pair of these with great anticipation of the wide fit helping my crushed toes. Immediately had an issue. The heel is also wide. I got heel strike on the crank arms every revolution. I even tried moving the cleats all the way to inside to accommodate and no dice. Never had this with any shoes before. Had to return them.

Not the best for heavy sweaters

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:
46.5
Height:
6' 2"
Weight:
187

Had a Shimano RC7 size 46 before this shoe which was just to tight, think 46.5 would have been just right So with that in mind I bought this shoe 46.5 which was a bit to big, so I think a 46 would have been perfect fit for me in the Lake Brand I know now for future reference what size to buy in these brands I have used this shoe I while now and I'm not pleased with the quality of the material. I sweat a lot, so when I'm done with a workout shoes are all wet. After about 6 months or so the material started cracking and breaking. The Shimano I used it for about 2 years and that did not happen. So sizing was e trail and error on me, but I was very disappointed in the quality Not the best shoes if you sweat a lot

Great so far, wide toebox!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I have worn them a few times now, and what a huge difference vs. other wide cycling shoes I have and have tried before. High volume shoes are not the same. This pair from Lake finally seems to have a truly wide toebox. The comfort was pretty immediate. I put on 50 miles this AM and the feet felt great getting off the bike...a first. The boa closure is pretty slick too. And the pair I got are white, but I have to say, for a cycle shoe, they look good too.

Finally a shoe that doesn't hurt

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
43.5/10.5
Height:

Weight:

So I have been dealing with a sore right foot after riding. I have been fitted twice to the bike and I have gone through 3 pairs of shoes. I finally ponied up and bought CX238 after a lot of research and recommendations given to me. I have to say these feel so comfortable. I have zero pain or discomfort and they feel so light and none existent on my rides. I will be buying these again when needed. Can't believe I have been suffering for no reason.

Great Shoes for Wide Feet

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Size Bought:
44.5
Weight:

I love these shoes! I rode my last pair of road shoes for 25 yrs (Sidi Mega's) because they fit well and that is so rare for my wide feet. I have a EEE wide foot and Lake's Wide Competition Last, (which is actually wider in the toe box than the Mega's), is downright roomy in the forefoot. In fact, for anyone used to suffering with shoes that are too narrow, these shoes are a bit of a revelation. Wow, they just fit!

High Arch? Morton Neuroma?? No Problem!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
48
Height:
6' 2"
Weight:
205

I have a lot of foot problems. Finding a comfortable cycling shoe ain’t one. This is the first road shoe I do not need ANY inserts for. My high arch feet are completely supported within the competition last. This “wide” variant does not pressure my forefoot to aggravate my neuroma in either foot. I love that the heel is still narrow to lock in my foot. The size chart is accurate. I appreciated that almost as much as the ‘custom’ size in an ‘off the rack’ shoe.

Perfect for my wide feet!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I have especially wide feet, and these CX238 wides are a perfect fit for my feet. My previous Giro Empires would cause seriously red and painful hot spots along the widest parts of both of my feet after about two hours, even after trying to stretch them out and using anti-chafing cream. I've pedaled in the Lakes for 4+ hour rides with no discomfort whatsoever. While the price is high, they have been well well worth it. Other things to note: the IP1 BOA dials are bi-directional so it is possible to both micro-tighten AND loosen them. Many other lower end BOA dials are uni-directional, where you can only micro-tighten but have to completely disengage them if you want to loosen them. The kangaroo leather is nice and supple and the white looks way better than the black IMHO, but obviously shows up scuffs and blemishes much more then the black.

Your feet will thank you

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

At 75, my feet are getting wider and give me problems. I have gone to shoes like Altras and Lems: wide toe box, zero drop and I have tried to find wide cycling shoes as well. These shoes seemed to be way too expensive for my budget but the reviews were great. I guess you really do get what you pay for: these are the best shoes ever. The toe box is the first I have enjoyed that is actually wide enough: I can spread and splay my toes. The twin Boas are great. Imagine: comfortable cycling shoes. The first I have found in 45 years. I have ridden about 150 miles in my new shoes over the last month.
