CX238 Wide Cycling Shoe
Even the best shoes in the world are nothing without a proper fit, as too many of us have experienced by trying to make a pair of shoes work for us to the detriment of our comfort and ride. Lake’s wide line of shoes delivers the exact performance and quality in a last 15mm wider to provide an alternate fit in their legendary footwear. The CX238 Wide has a dual BOA closure, and full-grain leather upper, to feel every bit as luxurious as Lake’s highest-level shoes.
The CX238 uses Lake’s CX Wide Competition Last for optimal power transfer and comfort. Specifically designed for high-cadence and high-output riding, the Competition last has a tighter heel for better fit and added room in the toe box to allow for foot expansion under hard efforts. Lake’s Race carbon fiber sole provides the stiffness we need for better power transfer and durability, with plenty of cleat position adjustability.
The CX238 has a redesigned upper with added panels to improve durability without sacrificing weight. A panel at the heel and a rubber bumper at the toe protect from prematurely wearing out the full-grain leather upper, which has mesh panels and venting to improve cooling. The dual Boa closure provides an enveloping fit and allows us to cinch down our heel for greater efficiency, without having to over-tighten on our forefoot.
- A premium road race shoe
- Race Carbon sole efficiently transfers power
- CX Competition last provides secure fit
- 15mm additional space in the wide model for an alternate fit
- Full grain leather is supple and comfortable as well as light weight
- Mesh paneling and vents enhance cooling
- Dual BOA dials provide precise, secure closure
- Compatible with 3-hole road cleats

Great Shoes for Wide Feet

I love these shoes! I rode my last pair of road shoes for 25 yrs (Sidi Mega's) because they fit well and that is so rare for my wide feet. I have a EEE wide foot and Lake's Wide Competition Last, (which is actually wider in the toe box than the Mega's), is downright roomy in the forefoot. In fact, for anyone used to suffering with shoes that are too narrow, these shoes are a bit of a revelation. Wow, they just fit!

I have a lot of foot problems. Finding a comfortable cycling shoe ainât one. This is the first road shoe I do not need ANY inserts for. My high arch feet are completely supported within the competition last. This âwideâ variant does not pressure my forefoot to aggravate my neuroma in either foot. I love that the heel is still narrow to lock in my foot. The size chart is accurate. I appreciated that almost as much as the âcustomâ size in an âoff the rackâ shoe.

I have especially wide feet, and these CX238 wides are a perfect fit for my feet. My previous Giro Empires would cause seriously red and painful hot spots along the widest parts of both of my feet after about two hours, even after trying to stretch them out and using anti-chafing cream. I've pedaled in the Lakes for 4+ hour rides with no discomfort whatsoever. While the price is high, they have been well well worth it. Other things to note: the IP1 BOA dials are bi-directional so it is possible to both micro-tighten AND loosen them. Many other lower end BOA dials are uni-directional, where you can only micro-tighten but have to completely disengage them if you want to loosen them. The kangaroo leather is nice and supple and the white looks way better than the black IMHO, but obviously shows up scuffs and blemishes much more then the black.

At 75, my feet are getting wider and give me problems. I have gone to shoes like Altras and Lems: wide toe box, zero drop and I have tried to find wide cycling shoes as well. These shoes seemed to be way too expensive for my budget but the reviews were great. I guess you really do get what you pay for: these are the best shoes ever. The toe box is the first I have enjoyed that is actually wide enough: I can spread and splay my toes. The twin Boas are great. Imagine: comfortable cycling shoes. The first I have found in 45 years. I have ridden about 150 miles in my new shoes over the last month.

THE PERFECT FIT, CX238 WIDE

I tried mountain bike shoes, and "wide" road shoes from other companies, they all ran from 98 mm to 100mm. Lake's web site has all the info you need for shoe sizes. They show 102mm standard to 114mm wide, the wides I have are closer to 109, my foot measures 108 but there is room for more foot because it doesn't feel tight and the length was spot on. When I open the box I could finally see a wide shoe, they were like putting on a pair of socks to go riding in, I took them out for a fast 11 mile sprint and my feet were fine, no numbness. Another plus is the multiple boa release option. Another plus is the fast shipping from competitive. "Best purchase I've ever made on line"

Bought size 45 and left seemed extra small, but have lived with that, and they still seemed more comfortable than other brands I had tried. So, the next year I bought size 45.5 to try to remedy that, and the left shoe is MUCH smaller than the 45! Of course, the only way to know how comfortable a shoe is is to actually use it- of course, so small, that it's super painful after just a few miles, making the shoes useless. Speaking of useless, LAKE decided to also completely ignore my email about the problem, although I was very nice in that email. Looks like I will look for another brand- hopefully one with both a quality control system in place and a customer service system.

Customer service is everything in the purchase of something so expensive. Thanks for heads up on this issue.

I had issues wth my lake shoes and communicated directly with the owner and he just downplayed everything and essentially was rude and dismissive in his reply.

I experienced something similar with LAKE customer service, I tried to return a pair of new shoes and they didn't even write back...

Totally agree with everyones point on rude Lake customer service. I called them about the various size charts from them. Troy abrubtly told me the only accurate one is the one on their website. Why does the size label on the box not match YOUR website then? Oh well, we upgraded some of sizing and manufacturers have some old inventory. They can make shoes, but customer service classes arent working!

5 stars on service & shoe, best fitting athletic shoe worn, first time not sizing up to accommodate width. Rough feet measurements, 250x106 mm & ordered size 40, really snug, no wiggle room. Spoke to JT who suggested going up to 40.5 & arranged return of first pair. Out of the box they felt great, feet fell into insert & all meshed. Correct fit meant not having to torque BOA to numbness level. Wide tongue & low ankle cut, heel stays put. 2 rides, 74 miles Fl heat/humidity, real coolness test to come soon. No ball of foot pain, all toes comfy. Average 6k miles a year.

Why would you comment on two completely different websites? Just for fun? Same review on the Competitive Cyclist website....
