Description

Why We Like The Sherpa 2.0 Bike Rack

We like the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 because it's lightweight, easy to use, and is capable of hauling just about any bike around, short of a 50lb freeride monster. Load your line-slaying babies onto the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 Bike Rack and simplify your packing routine so you can get to your destination and snag a campsite before sunset. The Sherpa 2.0 supports two bikes up to 40lb each, and it features a foot-actuated pivot lever that you can use to unfold the rack if your hands are full. This year, Kuat modified the design to create more space between bikes—14in—so they both have plenty of personal space to keep the peace on longer trips.

  • A two-bike hitch rack that carries up to 80lb
  • Includes semi-integrated lock for security
  • Foot lever allows you to fold rack down hands-free
  • No-tool assembly saves time and stress
  • Holds wheelbases up to 47in and tires up to 3in wide

Doesn't work well for long/modern bikes

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Fit:
Runs small

I've had this rack for several years and it's not holding up well. My bikes (medium Pivot Firebird and medium Scott Genius) each have a wheelbase of nearly 48" (not super long, but definitely not short). The rear wheel hangs somewhat off the rack and stresses the front tire cradle. This seems to be causing stress on all pivots on the rack. I looked up the capacity of the Sherpa 2.0 and apparently it is only designed to hold bikes with a wheelbase up to 47", so I guess it's not good for modern/large bikes. I noticed that Kuat's other racks (NV and Transfer) hold bikes with a wheelbase up to 50". Perhaps those would be a better option.

Nice Rack!

2 inch receiver

Took 15 minutes to install taking the tips from other reviews to follow unpacking instructions. Only thing I didn't like was the hitch pin is small for my Ram. Will use master lock in its place. Other than that it's super easy to use and great tilting feature. Easy load and unload.

While you’re sitting here reading reviews, the price of this rack may go up again. I purchased it when it was only $499. Just buy it already! It’s the best bang for buck with ease of use, and super light to take off when necessary. I pretty much keep my rack on except during the winter months. I store it in the garage when not in use as it’s footprint is very minimal. When bikes are loaded, it’s a solid ride and feels extremely secure even when going over bumps. As long as your ratchet arm is as close to fork when securing the bike, you won’t have any problems with movement. I have noticed that one of my arms has gotten a little harder to move back and forth, but it probably needs a little lubricant. Like I said, I practically leave it on most of the year. Again, it has great reviews for a reason. It’s not a rack that will leave you scratching your head trying to figure out. It’s easy to set up, load your bikes and off you go! Just buy it!

What size do I need for a 2021 Nissan Rogue?

Hi David! The factory receiver hitch on the 2021 Nissan Rogue is a Class I, 1.25" receiver. So, unless you have an aftermarket receiver hitch, I would choose the 1.25" size.

Absolutely love this carrier. Great design, great features, easy to assemble, easy to operate, strong and sturdy. I especially like the knob feature that easily tightens the hitch inside the receiver making it rock solid. No bounce. No vibration.

Perfect Rack

I could not be happier with my purchase! I bought my Sherpa 2 rack several months ago. I have used it for several long trips (more than 300 miles roundtrip). For now, I keep it on my Subaru Forester but plan to purchase the wall mount device and store it in my garage. The rack is easily assembled from the box and is a high-quality product. I am impressed by how easy it is to keep clean. The rack holds my wife's e-bike (50 pounds) and my carbon fiber bike. Easy to use. I am very pleased with the product and have helped sell my friends on purchasing them for their vehicles. While the cable lock supplied is good for short periods of time (making a quick trip inside a store or fuel center), I purchased a much stronger lock to use for overnight periods. I encourage you NOT TO USE A BIKE COVER WITH THIS RACK or it may act as a sail, catch the wind and bend the support bars. Instead, I cover my bikes with a tarp after stopping for the evening and remove it the following day. I will not hesitate to purchase another Sherpa when the time comes!

Does the rack get in the way of opening the Forester trunk?

Cable lock is just for show.

Familiarity:

The rack itself is excellent. The cable however is just for show. It is soft as butter and can be cut easily. I've had two cables cut and my son has had his cable cut. Buy a good chain lock to use with this rack.

BIFL warranty!

Familiarity:

First review of any product (ever). I’ve had this rack for 4 years. In the last year, the ratchet arms have been sticky when fully compressed. I use it all seasons taking it on and off the car for an average of 100 days per year. This week I tried to move the outer arm for the first time in several months and it was fully seized. After serious yanking and copious solvent it came loose but was still sticking when approaching full compression. Took it apart (not recommended) and found major corrosion on the tube. Emailed Kuat for warranty claim late last night (no proof of purchase just contact info and serial #). This morning received a friendly email that they would ship me two new complete arm assemblies. No charge for parts, free shipping. Later today they shipped, arrive next Wednesday. ARE YOU SERIOUS! Nobody comes close to this type of no questions asked warranty and service. I will recommend this company to everyone. Simply the best.

I've had the same experience. They've sent me parts almost against my will. I told them that the main pivot part was making a popping noise and they sent a new on right away, no questions asked. Great quality rack, and 2nd to none customer service. I wouldn't even hesitate to buy these 2nd hand.

Great to hear! Gives me confidence in buying

I finally pulled the trigger on the Sherpa 2.0 after years of having a Thule and fighting with that darn bike rack and my bikes getting scratch up! I said no more!! This past Memorial Day weekend 2020 I made the Kuat purchase. This weekend I drove from NYC to Cape Cod for 4th of July. Two Bikes were SECURE and easy to unload. No fighting and dealing with extra straps!!! Don’t think about it. Bikes don’t move at all!!! Only negative on it I say is that I have an SQ5 Audi and it does get in the way of opening the trunk. I’m okay with that because it has an easy latch for clearance. Make sure you have the right hitch!

LOVE THIS RACK

I had one of those crappy hanging racks before and it was a nightmare on long trips. I was always scared someone would steal my bikes when i stopped for gas/food, and my bikes were rocking around even though they were secure. This has been life changing. My bikes are completely secure. Don't move around at all now and I can securely lock them if I stop for food/gas. One pro tip though! Make sure you have the right hitch type when you purchase this. I got the wrong kind at first.

What size hitch does this take?

Oh Wow!

Familiarity:

It's as close to perfect as you'll get. The fit and finish are exceptional. It doesn't creak, wobble, rock loose, clank, bang, or secure the bikes in a dangerous way. It fits every frame I have and is easy to install or remove. I had it together and on the car in a matter of minutes. After a quick wax, I was riding around with it proudly displayed. It's footprint is so narrow I can't see it behind my Civic Si. The bikes sit fairly high & away from my car compared to my last rack by BV meaning I have to open my garage to load bikes. I love having a lock at the hitch and for the bikes. I never leave my bikes on the car, but it's nice to have a deterrent option. I've never left my rack on between rides until now, and only remove it for rainy days.

Incredible

I had a standard bicycle hitch rack for two bikes, the style had the bikes dandling from the rack. The hitch part was a little loose and would rattle and bounce. Recently I purchased a new SUV, started to look at new bike racks. First thing that caught my eye was the price, OUCH! I will tell you that is the only thing that was a little tuff to swallow. I CAN NOT TELL HOW HAPPY I AM WITH THE RACK, PRICE DID NOT MATTER ONCE I HAD THE PRODUCT IN MY HANDS!! First of all the packaging and the packaging detail is the best I have ever witnessed for a product, I mean superb!! Assembly details were the same top notch. I assembled the rack and placed it in the hitch, I said same fir as the last rack, loose and will rattle, THEN I READ ON IN THE INSTRUCTIONS, the knob on the back of the tube!!! Use this knob to take the play out of the hitch fit, WOW THIS ALONE IS WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY FOR THIS RACK, the rack is like it is welded to the vehicle, not wobble, or rattle, ROCK SOLID!! Have to tell you buying any other bike rack on the market will not do your vehicle or your bike any justice!! Spend the extra change and go for this rack, you will not be disappointed!!!

Put together is a snap. Attached to car in a snap. Put 2 bikes on it in a snap. Unloaded 2 bikes from it on a snap. Why can’t all things be this easy?! It’s pricey but definitely worth it.

Is it heavy?

Super good

Decided on this one over the more expensive one. Figured I wouldn’t need the fat tire capacity or built in work stand. Glad I saved the money. This rack is super solid, easy to set up and light enough to move it between cars or remove when not in use. Procrastinated a long time before finally popping for this. So glad I finally did.
