Description

No fears.

Tube damage from over-zealous clamping, flying road debris, quick-release skewers molesting frames—the dangers of auto-borne bikes are rightly feared. Kuat's Sherpa 2.0 Bike Rack addresses many of our rack-related reservations by securing the bikes in sleds without wrenching down on the top tube and leaving an expanded 14in between each machine. The sleds are reinforced to support bikes weighing up to 40lb, and the foot-actuated pivot lever lets you unfold the rack when your upstairs appendages are occupied with bikes or laden with trip supplies.

  • A two-bike hitch rack that carries up to 80lb
  • Includes semi-integrated lock for security
  • Foot lever allows you to fold rack down hands-free
  • No-tool assembly saves time and stress

Really solid 2 bike rack

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

After 3 or 4 years my Yakima rack was beginning to constantly have loose bolts and one of the arms had lost any spring resistance. As I was in the market for a new rack I decided to give the Kuat a try after several friends raved about them. Initial thoughts are it is very solidly built and I absolutely love how light weight it is compared to the Yakima. My understanding is they get the weight down by using a lot of aluminum vs. steel. The other two design elements that I think are a huge improvement over the Yakima rack I had is the hitch mount uses a hand-tight hitch system vs. a threaded screw. It really feels solid in the hitch. I also love the foot or hand release lever to put the rack up or down. Much easier to use.

If I had to leave one critique, I wish they had designed the Sherpa with the built in locking system rather than having to carry around the cords and locks separately. I know they did this on the NV but did not want to spend the extra money for that.

While not my primary reason for purchasing, the design esthetics are really nice with these racks - they just look good.

Great for MTB, not perfect for road

I love this rack for my MTB. It’s definitely high quality and it’s SO quick and easy to load your bike. The semi integrated cable lock is a really nice feature for the times that you are dropping by the grocery store on your way home from the ride.

I just took this rack on it’s first long drive from Tucson to Denver. Again, it was perfect for my MTB, but my rim brake road bike’s caliper gets pushed to the side, because the arm that secures the front wheel is so chunky that it hits the caliper from the side.

Long story short, I can’t imagine a better MTB rack, but if you are just looking for a road rack, I would recommend something from Thule or Yakima. Competitive cyclist has a GREAT return policy and even better customer service, so if it doesn’t work for you, no big deal! They always put the customer first!

Great for folks with cranky backs!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love this rack. I have back trouble, so my priorities were to have a rack that was light for easy installation and removal, and easy to operate without stooping. This rack checks both boxes with ease. It's the lightest rack in its class, and the lever to raise and lower the rack is very conveniently located from a standing position. It's so easy to use, and the aluminum construction resists corrosion.

Customer service is phenomenal, both from Backcountry and Kuat. The rack arrived with a small cosmetic blemish in one of the trays. Backcountry was willing to replace the whole rack free of charge. However, I called Kuat, and they simply shipped me a new tray for free!

This is one of the most satisfying purchases I've made in a while.

    Incredible

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

OMG, this is a wonderfully designed product that is built extremely well. This company has thought about the entire consumer experience -- even the box this comes in is designed to assist you in holding the parts during the assemble process. I assembled it while drinking my morning coffee, using the quality tools that were provided. As another review said, "you know you're dealing with a quality product when you want to keep the tools they provide. It's true. Anyway, this product assembles into one, rock-solid unit that holds my bike(s) firmly so that there is zero sway while driving and zero rattle from the hitch. I thought I'd be disappointed giving up my Thule racks....not so! In fact, I had called them directly for some customer service to help me select a new rack and was so disappointed in the help they provided (or didn't provide, in this case), that I went looking elsewhere and found this. Glad I did!

    I don’t always leave reviews....

But when I do it’s because of exceptional customer service. The rack is fantastic. The customer service from Competitive Cyclist was even better.
      Thank you!

      Kuat

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Nice design with solid feeling materials, perfect functionality and simple to use. It's light enough to remove without much effort. I only carry road bikes or cyclocross bikes, but it's been an awesome piece to have.

      Awesome Rack

      Great Customer Service from Backcountry.
      Great FREE 2 Day Shipping.
Now for the Rack, I love It. Easy assembly and great low profile. Rack looks great and functions perfect. I was looking for a tray rack that I could lower the tailgate of my P/U (2018 Nissan Titan) and not hit the rack. Tried several others and they were a no-go. This one is perfect.

      Thanks Backcountry and Thanks Kuat.

      Good bike rack

Really nice design. Easy to assemble and it's not too heavy.

Kuat sherpa 2.0 rack in 1-1/4"

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The rack footprint works great on our SUV and hatchback. While we have only had the rack for a month, it is plenty sturdy in our 1-1/4" Curt hitch. Assembly was a breeze, and I suggest looking at the instructions before pulling everything out of the box, as the box assists in assembly. The rack is pricey, but a good deal in my opinion when on sale. Not only does it look like quality, the feel of the parts make me think it is built to last. My 2018 Santa Cruz Blur 29er fits on there with no movement and mates well with my road bike on at the same time. Very happy with the purchase.

        Impressed

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This was my first experience with Kuat, I have always been a Thule owner. I have owned the T2 and T2 Pro. This rack is much lighter than my other racks, but also more thought out, easier to assemble, install, and use. Overall, very happy with it.

No good for anything more than xc bikes

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I'll let the picture be most of my review. It shows and large xc HT, and a large yeti sb5.5 with a 47" wheelbase. I'd say the 47" wheelbase results on an unacceptable overhang! Total crap design

No good for anything more than xc bikes

Will, thanks for the PIC. I was debating on this rack until this pic. I have a 48 inch enduro bike, and this would have been a big mistake.

No more taking my front tire off!

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

What a great rack! Super easy to install! There is a great youtube video that makes it really easy to get it all put together and ready to hold your bikes. I use to take my tire off and shove everything in the back of my Jeep. But no more! Saves time and makes getting to the trailhead a breeze. I have a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 2-inch hitch and this fits and works perfectly!

        Great 2 bike rack

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Great bike rack for those not looking to carry more than 2 bikes. It's sleek, stows away, and most importantly keeps your bikes on the car. Set up was simple and all tools were provided.

        Really impressed

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This is my first rack and im amazed, it gives everything i was looking for, I was a little bit worried for not going all in with the NV, but this rack has proved me wrong, really easy installation, very sturdy and it really secures your bike.

Great improvement over my old rack

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This thing is solid! No sway, no rattle, and no sag. It’s quick to place or remove a bike. For the assembly, it was cumbersome, used (2) pry bars to twist the bolts into place. Good thing you only have to assemble it once! Grab a good pint and enjoy the new rack.
Side note, it looks like it was built for my 4Runner from the factory, almost the exact same metallic grey! 👍
        Cheers

        Best Rack I've Used

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is the best rack that I've used throughout the years. The look is great, and the functionality is even better. You can tell that these racks are made from high quality materials and are built to last.
