In lock we trust.

Sure, there are plenty of days that a quick and lightweight cable lock will do the trick, but that won't suffice in the city, and certainly can't be trusted to keep your pricey steed safe for your full 8-hour work day at the office. That's what the Kryptonite Evolution Series 4 1016 Integrated Chain Lock is for — giving you big protection from the city streets, and long hours of leaving your trusty steed unattended. The Kryptonite Evolution Series 4 1016 works like a body-guard for your bike. It uses 10-millimeter 3M Manganese steel, tucked inside a nylon sleeve to keep your frame scratch free, while securing it to the fixed object of your choice for all day security.

The Evolution Series 4 features burly construction that is cut resistant, and uses an end-link design that fastens to a hardened deadbolt, so even what is typically the weakest part of the lock is hardened for the streets. The lock uses a disc-style cylinder that's both pick and drill resistant, and a nice little dust cover to shield the internals if the day's worst enemy is rainfall. The chain comes in at a whopping 5-and-1/4-feet long, giving you the space you want to hoop in your front wheel when locking up, or lock to large objects. Its power does, however, come at one cost — weight— scaling in at 9.7lb, making it a decent lock for tossing in your messenger bag or backpack, but not ideal for carrying on quick errands. It rates a solid 8 out of 10 in Kryptonite's security scale, meaning that Kryptonite trusts it so much, it will help you pay for a new bike if your trusty steed is taken at fault of the lock, all you have to do is register your bike and lock with Kryptonite after purchase, so you have extra peace of mind when you're stuck in the office working late, or hitting the local dive bar for a pint on the way home.

Peace of mind

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought this lock for when we need to leave our mtn bikes on the car for extended periods of time. My bike rack has a cable lock built in but there are situations where I don't feel like that is a secure enough option. This lock is super burly and heavy duty. There's no way somebody is cutting through it without a grinder. It's just long enough to fit around two frames and the rack. I also like that it has the nylon sleeve so it doesn't scratch the bikes.

Comfortable Security

I've used it several times

I use this lock to secure my bike to my bike rack when I stop in for post ride beers or errands prior to my ride. I feel confident knowing someone is going to need to use a grinder in public to steal my bike so I can enjoy my beverages without having to worry. It is super heavy, certainly not something you would want to carry on a ride, and ranks 8 of 10 on Kryptonite's security scale. Kryptonite will also give you free keys for life which is a nice bonus considering it comes with 3 keys and one has an integrated light. I only gave this 3 stars for a number of reasons. 1) It's not long enough to go through the frame, both wheels, and to the base of my rack so I only run it through both triangles and the rear wheel and my rack. Another 6 to 8 inches in length would have done the trick. If you were chaining to a pole or something on the side walk, it would likely work great. 2) This qualifies for $3000 reimbursement from Kryptonite's Anti Theft Protection policy which is free for one year but requires you to purchase a 5 year plan at $24.99 which stings a little when you've already dropped over a Benjamin for the lock.
