4000 105 Complete Tri Bike - 2016

With lines embodying the sweeping dive of a falcon, Kestrel has been a staple at triathlon events around the world since the original 4000 took the discipline by storm as the first full carbon TT bike in 1987. Almost 30 years later, the Kestrel 4000 105 Complete Tri Bike continues Kestrel's storied tradition by delivering wind-tunnel tested speed and long-mile comfort. Finished with a mix of Oval Concepts and Shimano 105 componentry, this whip is chomping at the bit to race at a price that pales in comparison to many other time-trial specific options.

This latest version of the 4000 is constructed out of super stiff and lightweight 800K high modulus carbon fiber for snappy handling and excellent power transfer. During the molding process, Kestrel utilizes polyurethane molding inside the bottom bracket, head tube, and other high-stress areas to minimize carbon wrinkles — a process that Kestrel claims optimizes strength while minimizing weight. Each 4000 utilizes size-specific tube dimensions, shapes, and layup to preserve consistent ride quality across the range of frame sizes.

To increase comfort over long bike segments, the 4000 boasts a slightly longer head tube than a stem-slammed, sprint-focused rig, allowing for more upright and comfortable positioning options, which should lead to less fatigue when dismounting to embark in T2. Out back, the rear triangle has been reworked to increase clearance for compatibility with the shifting trends towards wider rims, all without impacting aerodynamics. As a final touch, vertical dropouts make for fast and easy wheel changes and offer 8mm of adjustability to fine-tune your fit.
