Purposely designed for aggressive styles of all-mountain riding, the Juliana Roubion 2.1 Carbon R Complete Mountain Bike demolishes chunky rock lines and rips alpine descents with unflappable poise. 150 millimeters of VPP travel smooths out the roughest terrain without flinching, making it well suited for rallying it over large piles of rocks, sending bigger drops, and even dropping into the lift-accessed runs at the resort. And seeing that Juliana tailors their bikes specifically for females, you'll find the Fox Float Performance DPS shock it tuned specifically for the needs of lighter riders. This makes it all the more sensitive when you're pedaling over rock and root impediments standing in your way.
As the second-generation Roubion, you'll find it channels aggression into high-speed stability with its slacker geometry and longer wheelbase. This aggressive geometry makes the Roubion best suited for conquering demanding alpine terrain and rocky descents where short-travel trail bikes would be overwhelmed. The 66-degree head tube angle provides stability when you're opening it up at higher speeds and dropping into steep descents. The longer reach provides a roomy cockpit, so you're never cramped or uncomfortable while riding the Roubion across large swaths of alpine terrain. Furthermore, its snappy 17-inch chainstays keep it agile when you're cleaning tight switchbacks and ripping around berms.
This particular version of the Roubion benefits from Juliana's Carbon C frame, which provides exceptional stiffness that transfers every pedal stroke into forward momentum. It's also incredibly tough, withstanding the regular thrashings you're bound to subject this bike to. Internal cable routing cleans up its overall aesthetic while keeping muck from clinging to all your bike cables. Another subtle, yet all-too-important feature is the threaded bottom bracket, which resists the annoying creaks you're bound to get with a press fit bottom bracket.
The big story with the Roubion is the VPP suspension, which benefits from revised architecture of the linkages. As the third iteration of VPP, the upper link attaches to the top tube for increased stiffness and increased stand-over height, which is especially useful for shorter female riders. The lower link neatly sits above the bottom bracket, which protects it from damaging rock strikes and flinging debris on the trail. These changes in linkage location translate into improved suspension performance, with the third generation of VPP being more supple and sensitive to small bumps, as well as exhibiting increased mid-stroke support. As you'd expect from a VPP suspension, you'll find it's quite progressive at the bottom stroke, ramping up hard to prevent you from bottoming out on bigger hits.
Delving into the R build kit, you'll find a mix of dependable parts tailored to the needs of all-mountain riding. The Fox Rhythm fork serves up a stiff 34-millimeter chassis (i.e. stanchion size) that's ideal for rallying over rugged trails littered with rocks and roots, with 150 millimeters of travel soaking up every bump along the way. The SRAM NX 1x11 drivetrain provides a wide range of usable gears, as well as shifting simplicity without dealing with a front derailleur. Furthermore, you'll find size-specific dropper posts complement the Roubion's aggressive demeanor on steep descents and rugged stretches of trail.
