Spirited trail machine.

It's tempting to think you need a long-travel mountain bike, especially if your local trails are strewn with chunky rock impediments and gnarled root sections often causing you to dismount and circumnavigate these sections on foot. The thing is, most riders don't push their bike to the extremes demanded by a six-inch travel bike and instead would benefit from the snappier acceleration and climbing efficiency of a bit less travel, somewhere in the range of five inches. Realizing this, Juliana created the Furtado 2.0 Carbon CC XX1 ENVE Complete Mountain Bike with nimble handling and playful disposition over monster truck-like force in mind. Ultimately, it's a bike that begs for fast and flowing trails with massive berms, tight turns around trees, and long climbs back to the top of the forest.

As the smaller trail sibling to Juliana's enduro-bred Roubion, the Furtado 2.0 emphasizes surgical precision and playful handling, especially on tighter trail networks where trees often pose clearance issues. That being said, the Furtado 2.0 is reinvigorated for added confidence and comfort on high-speed descents with its 67 degree head tube angle and longer front end. It retains one of the lowest bottom brackets in Juliana's line at 13.1 inches, keeping you glued to the trail when you're charging at higher speeds and slaloming around tight corners. Another notable geometry figure, 16.7-inch chainstays retain a nimble feel for cleaning the tightest sections of trail.

It's packing 130-millimeters of travel (just a tick over five inches) of VPP suspension, which balances responsive pedaling with bump-smoothing compliance over rock gardens and gnarled sections of forest roots. Surprisingly, the engineers at Juliana made this 130-millimeters of VPP travel feel a bit deeper than the numbers suggest, making it suitable for conquering all but the most technical of trail networks. And because Juliana gives it a custom shock tune for lighter female riders, you'll find it's more sensitive and responsive than shocks designed for heavier male riders.

This particular version of Juliana's VPP suspension recently underwent a subtle redesign in the top suspension linkage, now attaching it to the top tube for greater stiffness and extra stand-over clearance on the frame itself. The lower linkage is neatly tucked above the bottom bracket, protecting it from flinging rocks and trail debris. As always with VPP, you'll find it strikes a nice balance between pedaling efficiency on the climb and rock-smoothing plushness on the descent, making it complementary to the Furtado's balanced geometry. To accentuate the best characteristics of VPP, this version of the Furtado comes with the Fox Float Factory rear shock with a Kashima coating for increased sensitivity to small bumps and terrain inconsistencies.

Juliana's impressive Carbon CC construction makes its way into this version of the Furtado 2.0, which is lighter than its Carbon C counterpart without sacrificing strength or stiffness. These weight savings are mainly due to Juliana employing a higher modulus carbon lay-up, which allows them to trim away excess materials for additional weight savings without forgoing stiffness or strength. You'll find this Carbon CC makes the Furtado all the more snappy when you're accelerating out of corners and climbing up steep trails. It still retains Juliana's lifetime warranty on frames to signify the legendary strength of its carbon construction.

Looking at this top-flight XX1 build, you'll love the massive gear range and shifting simplicity of its XX1 Eagle 1x12 drivetrain, which makes front derailleurs a thing of the past. FOX's excellent 34 Float Factory fork maintains stiff tracking over rough trails while keeping this Furtado build lightweight for long rides where efficiency and comfort are paramount. And because it's the very best build offered by Juliana, you'll find no less than ENVE m60/40 wheels keeping the bike swift and snappy with their carbon construction maximizing stiffness and minimizing weight.
