What category are these lenses as they darken from lightest to darkest? Thanks.

I purchased these because my regular sunglasses were not cutting it for ski touring in the sunny high elevation of Southern Colorado. I intended to use these only for uphill ski climbing and due to having fairly sensitive eyes never ski downhill with sunnys. Until now. Wow, these fit my face in such a way that the wind, sunglare, and snow flakes don't stand a chance. I am so stoked to be able to do ski tour laps sans goggles. Definitely not adequate for a blizzard but so sweet at keeping out wind and light snow. The sun protection is awesome as well as the transition from sunny bowls to shady trees. My eyes have not been happier.

I loved these and used them for all my adventures from November-May each year for hiking in the snow. They get super dark and prevent snow headaches, but lighten up enough to drive home at dusk with no problem. There are only two problems, (1) they must not have tested these on women with long hair because the "stem ends" grabbed and pulled out my hair all the time, this was fixed with some pocket knife skills on the trail one day when it got too frustrating, but that's why I'm only giving them 4 stars; and (2) I lost them while glissading down Mount Timpanogos' Everest Ridge. The lenses are seriously the best. Plus when the snow-colored shields fell off in snow I called Julbo and they sent me some bright turquoise ones for free... now if only I could get them to send me a replacement pair ;)
