Prefer to do your cables once per year?

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I used to run house shifter cables on my mtb, changing out housings every couple months due to our east coast mud and grit. Even tried Gore cables once, but they were difficult to install and expensive. Finally, I found these Jagwires 5 or 6 years ago and have not looked back. They are simple to install (follow the instructions or even just watch a video). They are sealed from end to end and stay slick and tight for at least 12 months before they finally need to be replaced. Both my kids race and my wife rides also. This means I have four bikes to maintain and only doing cables once every 12 months or so is a big savings of time and money. I love choosing custom housing colors to dress up these rigs and having fewer issues keeping eight derailleurs tuned properly means I have more time to ride and hear fewer complaints! Photo is from Whole Enchilada in Moab this past June with my two favorite riding buddies.

Couldn't Get It To Go

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I had my LBS (not proficient on wiring up shifters as of yet) try to set up one of the white colored versions on my Evil Following and they found that they weren't able to get it to go as the inner plastic housing wouldn't feed into the outer housing. The shop seemed to try every method to get it to feed through with no success past the first two mm.

It is probably a one-off thing as the LBS replaced it with a different Jagwire version that worked on the X01 Eagle drivetrain. Just something to watch out for but I'm sure it is an anomaly and not the norm.
