Trail III Pedal
Playing the part of the underdog in an industry dominated by giants, Minneapolis-based iSSi launched just a few years ago with the goal of making better pedals than what was currently available. We love to believe in an underdog as much as anyone else, but iSSi earned our admiration all by itself with its small line of meticulously crafted pedals.
Clearly named, the Triple Trail Pedal was created with trail and all-mountain riding in mind. It features a wider platform for better contact and stability between your shoe and the pedal. A more stable platform represents a welcome, but not revolutionary design, so iSSi looked to set the Triple Trail apart from proven favorites by changing up the bearing design and spring tension as well.
The Triple Trail's three bearings come fully sealed and with no option for adjustment, so the only time you'll have the opportunity to adjust them will be when noisiness tells you they're ready to be replaced. This leaves far less room for error, and we appreciate that the simple replacement process doesn't require a mechanic's certification—just a hex wrench and a socket.
As we mentioned above, iSSi does provide ample room for adjusting tension, so bigger riders or anyone more accustomed to the freedom of riding flats has the freedom to lock their cleats down as much as needed to prevent accidental ejections. It also updated its release angle and clip design, changing the angle from 20 degrees to 14.6 while rounding out the profile of the clip to achieve more predictable releases only when you want them.
- A stable trail riding pedal
- Wide platform provides control on technical stretches
- No-maintenance bearing design
- Wide range of tension adjustability

Solid Trail Pedal
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I recently decided to try a new clipless (clipped) pedal. For the last two years I have been running the HT T1 pedals and I've really liked them. What I have noticed about these Trail III pedals is they have a very solid feel when you're clipped in. You can really crank up the tension if you want to ensure you never come out, although I do think the T1 still has a higher tension than these pedals. The T1 does offer some float where as these pedals do not. I find these pedals are easier to get in and out of compared to the T1. I also really like that you can get a wide spindle with these. I feel the wider q-factor helps with stability and is more comfortable on longer rides. Another bonus, is these pedals use an SPD cleat so if you ever need a replacement you can find one at any bike shop. Overall, I really like these pedals. Oh, and you can choose from a bunch of cool colors, too.

Lots of Options
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I love all the colors and options on this pedal! I ended up going for the black with the +6mm spindle length. I'm a bigger dude at 6'4" 200+ lbs and I've always wanted to try out an increased stance width and this is the easiest way to do just that. I felt so much more aligned over the pedals and felt like I could put out more power with less pain, which is always a huge plus. The adjustable spring tension is a nice touch as well! Overall, they seem like they're well made and will last a long time.

Love the long spindle!
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I went with the Blackout Black with the 6mm wider spindle. I am really liking the extra space it gives in my Q factor. I am slightly taller at 6'1" and have pretty long legs so that little bit of space really helps my pedal stroke stay comfortable and consistent. The pedal is a little heavy, but they can take a beating! Adjustability on the release tension is great and you can really dial it in to fit your needs! Grab a pair!

Do not recommend
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I bought a pair of these last season, and after a few rides the spring on one of them broke. I could only clip in on one side of the pedal. I toughed it out the rest of the season and didn't think much of it. As it's very annoying to try and find the one side that clips in while riding I decided to buy a new pair this season. After 2 rides on the new pedals I have the same experience. This time the spring on one side just locked up. Adjusting the spring on that one side does nothing, so now again only one side will clip in. I have learned my lesson with this brand...looking for a new pedals now.

More Color, More Send
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
This is an excellent pedal for the price. Leveraging the popular SPD platform this pedal make cleat/shoe setup easier than most pedal brand transitions. If you're already running SPD's just throw the pedals on your bike and go. The cage surrounding the pedal is almost identical to that of the XTR - but with the option of several radical colors. The only caveat is they are a little on the heavy side. Would not recommend for XC but a great All Mountain/Enduro pedal.

Great pedal!
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
iSSi has taken the durable design of the SPD pedal, and added a few great features. Instead of using bushings, it uses bearings that can be replaced, which will always keep your pedal running smooth. It also has the ability to crank the tension almost twice as much as the normal SPD system for people that really want that planted feeling on your bike.

Why should pedals be boring?
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I have a confession to make: I only bought this pedal because of the styling color selections. I opted for blue to match my black bike and love the look. I'm still not quite ready for clips, so I switched back to my old platform pedals for the remainder of the summer, but I liked the sturdy feel of these, felt stable riding around.

Nice colors
I love the color options for this pedal but they are very heavy. I got them for my single speed and they work well but I don't think I would put them on my nice MTB due to weight.
