Carbon Road Pedal
Pedal industry underdog iSSi has been attracting far more attention for its designs off the trails, but here at Competitive, we're equally excited about road options like the Carbon Road Pedal. While the ability to match the color with our frame is awfully enticing, iSSi's fresh approach and solid designs are what's truly responsible for winning us over.
Minnesota-based iSSi crafts the entire body of the pedal out of carbon fiber, giving it lightness and rigidity befitting a pedal that will grace its fair share of weight-conscious frames. Anticipating the wear that pedals see through varied road conditions, iSSi coated the chromoly spindle with an ED treatment to boost its longevity and keep corrosion at bay, and it reinforced the cleat-pedal interface with a stainless steel plate.
iSSi's innovative split-cleat design gives you the ability to choose between three different float options: 0, 4.5, and 7 degrees. Since the pedals are easy to remove, this design allows you to swap them between bikes then adjust float based on your preference for a given discipline. As with its mountain pedals, the cartridge bearings are all brushed and completely sealed on the Carbon Road, and the pedal accommodates for spring tension adjustability to make sure standing out of the saddle to attack doesn't result in an accidental ejection.
- A lightweight, carbon-bodied road pedal
- Three float options adapt the pedals to different bikes
- Durable stainless steel plate protects cleat interface

Great pedal for the price you pay
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
Compare this pedal head to head with other road pedals at the same price point and this one comes out on top. While it’s not as light as the top end pedals across the board, I really think that you get a great value in the pedals for what you’re purchasing. The carbon body of the pedal is nice and stiff while the metal plate covering on the top provides durability against impacts from entry and exit when clipping in and out. Coolest thing about these pedals is adding them to a bike to match things up and add just that extra touch of flare on it. The ability to rebuild the spindle is convenient if needed. So it’s quite possible that these will be some of the last pedals you’ll have to buy for a while.

This is not carbon!!! Broke on 4th ride
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
The info states the body is made of carbon but that is dead wrong. ISSI page for this pedal does not mention carbon. Went out for my 4th ride on these great looking pedals. I popped my left foot out a mile in and the metal plate that was glued to the pedal dropped to the ground. This didnâÂÂt inhibit my ability to clip in so I continued my ride. On the way back I popped my right foot out and heard the other metal plate drop the the ground.

Great Pedals, Awesome Colors
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I've used Shimano, Look, and SpeedPlay pedals and these hold their own. The cleat type and feel most closely matches the Look style cleat, but the platform is a bit wider than typical Look pedals, which I'm a fan of. I can't speak to long term durability, but short term use these have been great and I haven't had any issues.

Great colors, good performance
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
iSSi offers some great value and color options, especially at almost half the price of other comparable carbon road pedals. The pedal platform offers a wide surface area for great power transfer - bolstered by the stiffness of the carbon body. For the money you can’t ask for that much, but I did find the bearings to be lacking. Even after a break in period they were not very smooth, but other than that they are a great way to accessorize your bike with good performance and great color options.

How...
- Familiarity:

...cool is it to match the livery of your two-wheeled steed with these awesome color coded pedals from iSSi which are compatible with Look three-bolt Keo style cleats. They also offer a + 5mm spindle length for those that need a wider Q-Factor. Incredibly smooth on the bike as well, which is never bad for the pedal stoke! Highly Recommend!

Great pedals
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I have been using these pedals for around 2 months and they have worked flawless. They are easy to clip into and out of. The choice of colors are a nice change from other brands that only offer black. Other reviews on this site and on other websites indicate that some users have issues with the pedals not making an audible sound when they clip in. However, that has not been my experience so it may be the shoes they are pairing with the pedals. I would not hesitate to buy another pair of these pedals.

Do these pedals come with the Look KEO cleats, or do they need to be purchased separately?

Happy so far!
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I've been using these for about 2 weeks now and I'm pretty pleased. It's my first time using Look-style cleats, so there's a bit of adjustment to clip in. I do wish they made some sort of audible sound when you did clip in so you knew right away, so I'm deducting a star. I've only done short rides so far, but they are comfortable, seem to transfer power well, and are relatively easy to clip out of. Plus they look great!
