K-Pact Zip Knee Pad

When you're heading out for a ride, protection shouldn't be an afterthought, but none the less we often forget to put on our knee pads before we get our shoes laced up, which is why the designers at Ion made the K-Pact Zip Knee Pads. Enabling us to enjoy the coverage and confidence that is brought from Ion's well-loved K-Pact, but with a top-to-bottom zipper that makes for easy adding or removal without taking off your shoes, so you can free your knees for long climbs, and toss on your pads for a safer descent, or zip them on in the lift-line with ease.

The K-Pact Zip knee pads are made tough, with a hardshell front and dense foam sides for keeping your knees protected when you're blasting berms and weaving through tight trees. Ion's padding of choice comes from SAS-TEC, a Germany-based company that excels in armor for motorcycles, so you can trust it's built for high speeds and serious impacts. It's sewn onto a breathable neoprene sleeve that is heavily perforated to allow mesh-like breathability, but with superior coverage and protection. The top and bottom of the pad feature a silicone gripper, as well as an elastic strap with hook-and-loop closure to secure the pad, so you don't have to worry about them slipping when you're mashing on the pedals.

Great pads - comfortable & easy

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I'm about to buy a second pair. The pads inside did crack as someone else posted but they lasted maybe 300 rides before that happened. I wash them maybe every 4th ride and never dry them. I wish the pads inside hadn't cracked as everything else is in good shape for longer use but I'm still impressed with the comfort, performance and longevity.

I?m really happy with how these have worked out. They offer very good protection and they?re very comfortable. I don?t notice them even when pedaling.

Nice pads, not so nice quality

Familiarity:

These knee pads are comfortable & the zip is really convenient, but I have the same issue many others have had. The pads don't last. Mine have ripped in half. I definitely would have liked to get more than a few months out of them. I won't purchase again.

Excellent quality, little ventilation

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

These are nicely made and the zipper works as it should. Ion makes high quality gear and this is no different. I think for cool weather park riding these are fine. But for warmer weather these have no breathability. Also though they look burly, there's just one piece of foam inside which isn't very easy to remove or reinstall when washing. Given the level of protection was only moderate, I wasn't willing to accept the trade off of warm knees. Returned.

Pure post ride bliss!!

Familiarity:

Oh, the joy at my newfound ability to just unzip and be out of my pads after putting the miles of riding! Worth every penny just for that part. After watching my buddy do this very thing, I sat there and thought, I have to have a set of these for myself! I ordered a set of extra-large. They seem to fit well. They are comfortable and stay in place. I will say the zippers make me a bit nervous as they seem to be on the smaller or daintier side of what I would prefer. I just make sure to take care of stretching them, and I am confident all will be well.
