Why We Like The ION K-Pact Select Knee Pad

You want to protect your knees, but that coverage can't come at the price of the mobility and strength you've worked so hard to develop. The Ion K-Pact Select Knee Pad brings the two needs together with their Tectonic Fit technology, a design that separates the knee and shin panels to ensure the pad maintains the flexibility you need. The pad itself uses lightweight EVA side panels to disperse crushing impact forces without sacrificing mobility in key areas. The knee pad zone features SAS-Tec and Air Prene padding, both of which are used for their flexibility, breathable comfort, and impact protection. Power Aramid material along the upper pad withstands abrasion and tearing forces, should you slide out on your bike over rugged ground.

Did the job but wear out fast

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I got these about 2 years ago and have worn them on rides about once a week, with a couple of crashes here and there. I take out the internal knee pad pieces and run them through the washer every 2-3 months or so, then line dry. Sometimes I'll just rinse them off and line dry if needed. Pros: - they aren't slip-on, which was one of my top criteria - they aren't too hot even in 100*+ Texas heat - I don't really notice the bulk when riding - they provide good protection and a lot of coverage on my shins too, have landed directly on my knees 2-3 times and didn't even bruise. They also do a good job of blocking cactus spines! Cons: - they look super bulky on - the elastic straps have lost some of their elasticity and I'm now constantly having to pull them up; they slip down nearly every time I ride because I can no longer get them tight enough - the velcro also seems to be wearing down and the bottom strap comes loose easily - the mesh fabric on the side has gotten caught on my pedal pegs more times than I want to count and is all ripped up now; even pulled out one of the side seam bindings, so they look pretty trashed Overall, I'm glad I bought these when I was first starting out; they helped me feel more confident on the trail. But I am bummed at how much they've worn out in 2 years (although some of that could be due to how I care for them - not sure, as I don't see any care instructions provided).

Great if you never actually use them

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Sure they look cool. Sure they're really comfortable when riding. But when it comes to an impact, they're not worth much. My first impact and my right knee was hamburger! Used for mountain unicycling. I've used and abused numerous knee/shin sets over the years and these are definitely not worth the high price tag. Unfortunately, like Firefly, my go to set was discontinued.
