Better than ever.

The engineers at Industry Nine knew that they had a good thing going with the best-selling Trail rim. So when the colorful, North Carolina-based manufacturer known for its snappy hub engagement and precise machining updated the popular rim, it did so with a just a few changes. The new tubeless-ready Trail 245 27.5in Wheelset retains all of the reliability of its predecessor with a few changes to give it an even more bombproof construction than before.

Industry Nine starts with its dependable aluminum rim construction for the Trail 245s, increasing the internal width to 24.5mm to better accommodate modern tire widths. The rim also features I9's new Second Generation Tubeless profile. The new design entails wider bead seats, a shorter, more tapered bead wall, and a more flared shape, all of which serve to improve the tires' flat resistance at low pressures. I9 also adds material to specific points that are vulnerable in impacts, improving the rim's dent resistance. All-in-all, these changes don't result in a drastic weight difference, adding negligible weight to the entire setup compared to the previous version, and they result in a rim that's better equipped to match the versatility and responsiveness your 27.5in frame demonstrates on the trails.

The Trail 245s are finished with I9's Torch hubs, which are built with the functionality that has earned Industry Nine its cult following. Industry Nine uses its own proprietary mechanism of two sets of three pawls phased three degrees from each other to provide 120 points of contact and a near-instant three degrees of engagement. It's a design they haven't found any room to improve upon for the Trail 245s. Rim meets hub courtesy of I9's signature, lightweight 7075-T6 aluminum spokes, which thread directly into the hubs to eliminate extra movement and parts.

Great Wheels

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have used these for about 10 rides and love them and notice the difference from my old stock rims. The engagement is quick and they are firm. Hub is a bit loud at first, but you get used to it.

So far, so good

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Ridden the I9 Trail 245, 24 spoke version of these wheels about 10 times and so far I like them. Pretty stiff and very light for a trail wheel. I like the quick engagement of the free hub and it feels more efficient than the Stans Arch wheels I was riding. Was hoping for a 32 rear and 24 front, which is what was sold by the rep on the phone, but received the set of 24's. I decided to keep them rather than exchange them for the 32's. Good choice so for. The only downside so far is that the rear hub has some drag and is a bit slow. It has gotten better so perhaps it will be better with a little more break in time.
