Hydra Enduro 310 Carbon 27.5in Boost Wheelset
When power, speed, and propulsion are your top three priorities, we recommend pairing your ride with a wheel capable of shedding grams, engaging with snappy power, and holding on hard through the rough and rubble. We'd argue that Industry Nine's Hydra Enduro 310 27.5in Boost Wheelset does exactly that, pairing the Pillar carbon hoop with the 32-hole system chassis, and the telepathically responsive new Hydra hub that's capable of soaring forward with 0.52-degrees of engagement. The Pillar rim combines technology from Reynolds Cycling to craft a premium carbon hoop with a hookless bead for seamless tubeless setups, and a lightweight but stiff construction that comes backed by a limited lifetime warranty to give you peace of mind when you're booking it full-speed into wheel-gobbling rock gardens.
The meticulous carbon rims aren't just any run-of-the-mill epoxy and fiber-reinforced rings. Industry Nine enlisted help from the composite wizards at Reynolds Cycling, which means that these 31mm inner width, tubeless rims feature Reynolds' MR5 technology. It focuses on five key elements—spoke face, nipple bed, tire channel, rim sidewall, and hook bead—in order to optimize resin chemistry and carbon layup for the structural loads of each component. The result is the Pillar Carbon rim with Twin Pillar hookless bead walls. The rims, found exclusively on Industry Nine’s Pillar line of wheels, are tubeless-ready and offer an excellent strength-to-weight ratio and ride quality characteristics.
At the center, the stiff carbon rims are laced to I9's all-new Hydra hubs.
The Hydra hubs are an update to Industry Nine's previous drive system, and once you have a look at the internals, you'll begin to spot the differences. You'll notice a similar pawl layout in the Torch system with the meticulous CNC machining the brand is known for. Like the old Torch hub, the Hydra features a 6 pawl design, however, the drive ring gets a whopping 115 teeth, as opposed to the 60-tooth design used in the Torch, creating an impressive 690 points of engagement, nearly six-times quicker than is predecessor! These 690 points of contact translate directly to the snappiest hubs we've ever seen, with only 0.52-degrees of engagement, meaning you'll be getting on the gas instantly and solidly. You'll be glad to know that the new hubs maintain the same simple maintenance procedures so, for those who like to tinker on your own bikes at home, you don't need any proprietary tools.
