Hydra Enduro 305 27.5in Boost Wheelset

Industry Nine has garnered quite a reputation over the years for their beautifully anodized Torch hubs with responsive 3-degree engagement, handmade in the USA by expert machinists and wheel builders. If you follow mountain bike news, you may have read that the Asheville, North Carolina based firm has spent the last couple of years cooking up a new hub system called Hydra with even quicker actuation than before. Offering a groundbreaking 0.52-degrees between engagement points, Hydra are the snappiest hubs we've ever laid hands on. We're happy to offer them here as the complete Hydra Enduro 305 27.5in Boost Wheelset, laced up with Indusry Nine's signature straight-pull spokes and burly Enduro 305 alloy rims, creating a bruiser of a wheelset that's ready to charge hard in aggressive terrain.

The Hydra hubs build on Industry Nine's previous drive system, featuring a 6-pawl design like the Torch hubs, but the drive ring is boosted up to 115 teeth as opposed to the 60-tooth design found on Torch. The pawls are also independently phased, engaging in procession as the axle rotates, resulting an an unheard of 690 points of engagement with just 0.52-degrees between each engagement point. While this provides near-telepathic response when you apply force to the pedals, one of the primary benefits is increased durability. With the Hydra's independently phased system, you have one leading pawl that starts to take the load from pedaling, but because the pawls are phased close together and the tooth count is so high, as soon as you apply torque to the system a second, third, and sometimes even a fourth pawl start taking some of the load to disperse the force more evenly. Basically, Hydra uses the inherent flex in the drive system to ensure that a single pawl will never take the full load, minimizing wear and tear on the freehub body and drive-side bearings.

In order to cater to riders wanting a strong wheelset for aggressive trail riding and enduro racing, I9 laces up the Hydra hub with their burly Enduro 305 rims. Featuring stiff and reliable aluminum construction, a wide 30.5mm internal width, and a dent-resistant profile, these rims won't shy away from taking the straight line through chunky rock gardens and gnarly exposed roots. And thanks to 32 straight-pull spokes that thread directly into the hub shell to create a solid, flex-free junction, you'll enjoy precise tracking over rough terrain and long-term reliability on the trail.
